Here is what I found when I took a tank apart.

I've been getting 1/8 OD copper tube from an auto parts store. It is on a roll and they sell it by the foot, about $1 as I recall. It has a thicker wall and doesn't kink when bending.

And here's another example of the strange behavior of BRASS tubing.
This is a "feed-thru" for the top of a gallon fuel bottle, but the interesting thing
here, is that the worst breakdowns are where the brass tubing is in contact with
the VAPORS from the fuel, not the direct liquid fuel.
Any chemists here that can explain this behavior??? Could it be the close
proximity to the interface between the brass and the lead/tin solder used to
fabricate the fittings?

No, because I had pretty much the same thing happen with no solder.
The theory has always been that the zinc gets leached out of the brass, leaving a spongy and brittle copper matrix that then breaks easily. I don't know the chemistry.

The most common example is selective leaching of zinc from brass alloys containing more than 15% zinc (dezincification) in presence of oxygen and moisture, eg. from brass taps in chlorine-containing water. It is believed that both copper and zinc gradually dissolved out simultaneously and copper precipitates back from the solution. The material remaining is a copper-rich sponge with poor mechanical properties, and color changed from yellow to red. Dezincification can be caused by water containing sulfur, carbon dioxide and oxygen. Stagnant or low velocity waters tend to promote dezincification."
The oxygen being supplied by the nitromethane and the water being supplied by your hygroscopic methanol.

Yahoo Babelfish doesn't know the Chinese for wanker, nor does it translate anything into Urdu. http://dictionary.englishtourdutranslation.com/?english=wanker&submit=Translate gives احمق
