Borescope
« on: July 26, 2019, 03:15:23 PM »
I recently had need to look into the innards or my ship and came across a borescope or endoscope.  It'll connect to a PC or smartphone and will fit through a 1/4 inch hole.  I'm amazed at how well it worked and how inexpensive it was, about $10.  I drilled a 1/4 inchole in the rear of the tank compartment and snaked the scope through to view the bellcrank and leadouts.  Was able to see the problem where before I was guessing.  A neat tool.

I saw the pink pictures and initially thought you were doing your own medical work.

We missed you at the Nats.

Thanks Howard ... wish I could have made it ...

The plane is a translucent red .... it does kinda look like a medical procedure

Dave ... I couldn't believe how inexpensive it was and how well it worked .... every shop needs one ... if only to see whats fallen down behind the TV

Your leadout holes are oh so slightly ragged.  I'm going to remember this if I ever appearance judge that plane.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

Once, when my main sewer line was clogged, the plumber used a borescope which went down the pipe over 50 feet!

Frank I discovered I had a little open gap in the back of my pipe tunnel and some oil got in.  This will help me see how much and look for damage.  Thanks!

I ordered one through Walmart that will work with IPhones and MacBook for about 22 bucks.  Should be worth every dime.  Would have been great when I had to replace blower resistors under the dash of the car last winter....

Many years ago, I was working in the CF6 jet engine shop at American Airlines. ( The CF6 -6K was used on the DC-10)  One of my friends named Ken was using a Boroscope to inspect the  inside of the oil line for coking in the #5 bearing journal. A new Guy wandered up and said " is that a boroscope? Can I look? " Ken said sure, and the new guy looked in the eyepiece.  At the same time, Ken stuck the lense end of the boroscope up his right nostril.

The new guy screamed! He didn't expect to see a pink tunnel and hairs and green snot on the inside of the oil tubing.

Great fun!
