As some of you know, I am composing a book documenting the Brodak Fly-In.

The text will include chapters on various subjects including general information, history, couples, music, crazy events, sad days, workshops, outstanding Fly-In attendees, father/son teams, clubs, hobby shop information, banquet, manufacturing facility tours, lodging, food, museum and preparation for the Fly-In.

There will be some selected photos interspersed in the text and included with the book will be a CD with around one thousand photos from every Fly-In. Many of you will see yourselves in the photos.

I am trying to get a feel for what kind on interest this type of publication will have to the general CL community.

I estimate the cost to be around $25.00 for the book and CD. An SDHC card will be available for a slight extra charge.
Profits, if any, will go to the museum fund.

Since the initial financial burden will be mine, I really need to get an idea of how many people would be interested.

Thanks to all of you who responded with enthusiasm to acquire the book.
Unfortunately, things are not looking all that well at this point.
I'm more than a bit disappointed at how few responses I received from the Northeast, in particular the Philadelphia area - NONE.
I'm assuming (and hoping) that a substantial number of people who do not subscribe to Stunt Hanger will be interested.

But, I will persevere. I will be meeting with a publisher in Charleston next week to discuss out-the-door pricing for the published book as well as minimum quantity required.
Right now, I'm looking at a softbound 5 1/2 by 4 1/4 format. I will of course entertain suggestions from the publisher.

I was not able to attend before John's passing. I have eagerly read reports in Stunt News and Flying Models on the events through the years. If you have anything to add to what has already been published I would definitely be interested in such a book!

Gentlemen - As I stated before, thank you for all the positive feedback and interest in the book.

I will be meeting with a publisher in Charleston, SC on June 8, to discuss the nuances of getting the book into print. I'm sure they require a minimum order so I will probably go with that. It may, in fact, be the only printing.

I did mention my disappointment with the lack of response from many of the Fly-In attendees, especially those from the biggest club in northeast Philadelphia (zero responses).
I even called a number of people who do not frequent Stunt Hanger, asking if they might be interested - they did not return my calls so I guess no interest.

So far, around 40 people have responded.

In any case, I will do all I can to deliver an informative and interesting publication along with a CD containing many photos.

Bob I for one would be interested in the book and will order one should it come to fruition. I see that you pulled no punches and called out the Philly Fliers for not participating in this venture. As most here know, for ALL of the time that the Brodaks meet was on, the Philly Fliers were a fixture there and most of the time had more representation than any other group attending. That's fact. So why would a wonderful group of enthusiastic,helpful,fun guys not "buy into" your book? Only you can answer that. PhillySkip

Actually, no, I cannot answer it - I have no idea what you're implying.

For those still interested, I will meet with the publisher tomorrow in Charleston (ANY excuse to visit Charleston - my favorite city!).
After looking at the manuscript, they can tell me lead time, cost and minimum quantity required for production.
So far, around 45 people have expressed interest.
Hopefully, that number will increase, as I will have to front the publishing cost out of pocket.

In any case, the book is quite nearly done but I still welcome any photos that you might have for me to include, either in the main text or in the CD.

If you have the faintest interest in the Brodak Meet, I would suggest that you buy this book.
Usually, a book like this is published, all copies are sold, and a short time later, people want the book... but no extra copies can be had.

OK, met with the publisher and things are looking good.

The cost should be below $25.00 per copy which includes the assortment of photos. Lead time around 3 weeks, depending on their backlog.

Regarding the photos, I have decided to put them on a flash drive instead of a CD – much more room and of course, compact. There will be a number of folders on the flash drive to isolate some of the more numerous items, like Junkyard Wars and T-Shirts.

US shipping will be by priority mail (around $8.00) or first class (around $5.00). Out-of-country depends on the “ship to” location.
I have had around 50 positive responses and since the minimum order is 75, unless I receive at least 25 more responses, I will order 75. I truly hope that more people respond so that I can order 100 copies.

I do not anticipate an additional order.

I will also donate copies to the wonderful people in Carmichaels who worked so hard to make the Fly-In a reality.
When ready for delivery, I will post on Stunthanger and require a prepayment.
I prefer a personal check as opposed to Pay-Pal.

I now have orders for around 65 books.
If it gets to 75 before I commit to the publisher, I will increase my order to 100.
I'm very busy with the photos - turns out, I have over 4000 to edit and categorize.

So for, the different categories are:

Just people
Engines
Pets
Planes
Planes and people
T-Shirts
Stuff (kind of a catch-all for photos not fitting a particular category)
Junkyard Wars

I'm really putting some serious time into this effort.

I can really appreciate the effort involved as I had a book on skiing published. Took 4 years to get it finalized. Don't want to count the hours spent. However, when it was finally finished, I would do it all over again.

Good idea. I've had photos on a CD that eventually the computer couldn't open for whatever reason.

OK, Thanks again for all the positive responses.
Between Stunt Hanger and a few private calls, I received around 70 positive responses.
The names are all written down and these people will, of course, be guaranteed a book and thumb drive.

If all goes as planned, the first draft will go to the publisher in a few weeks.
I will probably order 100 copies and hope that I can sell the rest.
When the copies are in my hand, I will announce here on Stunt Hanger and checks can be mailed to me.
