What out for them feathered hazards!  Glad you avoided the midair. We get geese flying straight thru the circles right down on the deck sometimes. The guys not flying are supposed to keep an eye out and warn the guy that's up. Sometimes that system works! The red-tails generally cross over high enough to be out of the danger zone, but they definitely will spook ya. Since Granny and Jethro moved out of Beverly Hills, no one is interested in road kill around here anymore, so we try to avoid it....

Never bagged a Turkey Buzzard but sometimes it is even too close for guns, so you switched to props!

A couple of weeks ago I was in the air and a flock of geese (maybe 10-12) flew directly over the circle at maybe 40' high. Luckily, I was practicing level inverted flight and was down low. If doing different maneuvers, it would have been a different outcome.

Brings back memories of night hawks down at the old Kansas City Park flying in late evening.  Made for good combat practice until you clipped his feathers.   Thet really move fast when that happens.  I did get a bird flying mouse race at Topeka contest.   Had his wings attched to the plane.  Needless to say it didn't fly very far and my landing was very short once engine quit.
