Bob Hunt wants to sponsor a raffle for John Miller`s fund
« on: April 11, 2012, 04:36:15 PM »
Bob Hunt called me today and ask me to do a raffle for John. He wants to donate a completed wing of your  choice or two foam wings jigs of your choice. The price of each ticket will be $20.00 you can buy as many as you want. The raffle will run for one month May 12th. His wings complete are about $300.00 dollars so here is a chance to have the best of the best.My sincere thanks to Bobby Hunt for doing this. Send money or check to

Gordan, you have an engine raffle and a wing raffle and are accepting checks and PayPal.  If a donation is made through PayPal, will those contributions go into the raffles?  Will there be two winners, one for the wing and one for the engine?  How about the PayPal fees taken from the donation?  Will those fees have to be added to the $20 donation in order to enter the raffles?  Does one $20 donation cover an entry for both raffles?  Sorry for the confusion, but there are several threads going about the same topic.

Hi Dick,

If you send the Pay Pal money as a GIFT then no fees are collected from either party.

Bill,

I think you will find that is NOT correct.   There is a service charge for using PayPal much the same
as using a credit card.  When you buy a new engine at the LHS with a credit card, the LHS has to pay a fee to the
credit card company.

Now, if you are sending money to someone, you don't want that individual to have to pay the transaction
fee....that would be pretty "tacky".   So, one specifies the transaction as a GIFT, and the SENDER PAYS
THE TRANSACTION FEE.   I know this to be the case, because I did it recently.   It makes sense.

Cheers.

That fee only applies if you use a credit or debit card.  This from the Paypal site:

"If you use your bank account or PayPal balance, there is no fee to send money for a personal payment within the U.S. If you use your debit or credit card, there is a small fee, but you decide whether you or your recipient pays. If you send money outside of the U.S. additional fees may apply. "

Hi Warren,

I can't argue with what you had to pay, but I can say that the last three Pay Pal transactions I have done were as gifts and it plainly stated that no fees were charged to me or the recipient.

Maybe it IS because mine comes out of my checking account, no credit cards involved (I don't have any). ???
