Bluegrass World Cup
« on: October 23, 2012, 05:54:45 AM »
(Well, since talking about an event is not apparently allowed in the "Event" forum, I have reposted here.)

The first ever FAI World Cup event for F2A and F2C (in fact, the first World Cup for CL of ANY kind!) in the United States was held this past weekend in Bowling Green, Kentucky, at the beautiful new CL site built by the Southern Kentucky Model Aero Club.

We had 16 entries in F2A and 10 teams in F2C. Only casualty was to Valerii Kramarenko(Ukraine) who's model box and all models arrived badly damaged. Many modelers from all over the world as well as the U.S. From Australia, New Zealand, Russia, Ukraine, Sweden, Nederlands, U.K., France.

Weather was variable. We had a very bad storm front go through Wednesday evening with lots of wind and rain and lightning. Thursday, arrival and practice day, was nice but breezy. Friday and Saturday were overcast and cool but without any significant wind. Sunday was one of those perfect Indian Summer days with the high about 72, bright sunshine and deep blue sky.

Organization by the SKYMMAC club was excellent. We had a large (40'x60') tent with many tables and chairs for the folks to use. New concrete circle is very smooth with no bad undulations for the F2C landings to deal with. Friday evening was a barbeque dinner brought in to the field, Saturday evening was a banquet at the Corvette Museum followed by a tour through the Museum. Even if you're not a Corvette fan, this is a great place to visit!

Here are the final results.

We're already planning for 2013. We expect the turn-out to be even better next year.

Regards,

Bill Lee

Bill
Congratulations to you and the SKYMMAC club.  Wish I could have been there (niece's wedding kept me here).  There's nothing like the sound of an F2A on the pipe.  The French team was excellent at the 2004 worlds ... looks like they still have it.

Congratulations for pulling it off. This may help in furthering these events in the USA.
