Blonde and Handsome
« on: April 09, 2011, 04:01:42 PM »

No not me! ;D I'm grey and wrinkly  :) This is James Legg, my 4 year old grandson, with a couple of Frog Talismans I built for him to learn to fly on.
He's keen :) hope he stays that way?

Cheers

Way to cute; sure he's your grand kid???  ??? ??? Just kidding of course!! Nice looking boy, I hope you teach him to be a great C/L flyer. Have you ever started your Chipmonk? I'm now starting my second. I'm making some of David Fitzgerald's most notable changes. I'm sure it  (I) will never be a Nats winner with it, but I'm looking forward to seeing how much difference there is from the stock plane. By the way, how's your back doing. Last time I heard you were having some issues. Hope all is well now.

We were all cute and good looking once Brian ;D Yes I know it's hard to believe now when you look in the mirror ;D. I don't do that very often, I'm afraid it might shatter LL~  Got a bit disappointed with the Chipmunk, made a new set of ribs, and saved about an ounce, but since then I've been suffering with a fairly serious illness which has drained my energy levels over last year, and meant two trips a week to hospital for treatment! Not feeling too bad now, I will get down to the flying field with James now the weather is improving.

Yeah, I'd say the only problem will be when the womenfolk start throwing themselves at him.  Neville, you may have to share your experiences and counsel him on what to do when that happens!

That photo was taken on Saturday afternoon, this afternoon he has just spent a few hours in A&E with a 2" gash across his head after falling off his bike! He is still cheerful though, and probably playing up to the nurses, who'll be all over him :) Been there done that, mind you it was over 50 years ago, I was accident prone, or just "bloody awkward"  ;D

It brings back great memories of my sons flying their 1/2a Flite Streak, which lookes a whole lot like your "Frog Talismans".  Hope your grandson is having the same kind of fun.  By the way is the Talisman a GMA design?

Yep, that is one handsome young man.   The ladies, young and old will be all over him.   The planes look great too.   Look a little like Flite Streaks.   H^^

About 1960 there were a plethora of designs being kitted, by FROG, KEIL KRAFT etc, all very similar to GMA's Peacemaker, published in the AeroModeller in '59.
This model, the Talisman, (28" span for a 1.5cc motor) was kitted by FROG models, check out 'The House of Frog' website, they were making models in the '30's.
Back in the '60's I could buy one these kits with one weeks paper round money, so I built a few :) I got paid 17/6 (seventeen shillings and sixpence, for 7 mornings, 5 am-8 am then school >:() a week, the price of a Talisman, the tank also came in kit form so I learned to solder at an early age.
James is fine after his crash with a road sign, which put a 2" gash in his head! I'm told he kept the Doctors an nurses entertained.
