Bill Zimmer Hospitalized
« on: October 27, 2008, 09:47:39 PM »
Long time Nats' Judge and Beginner Pattern proponent Bill Zimmer has been hospitalized.

I just got the news from Bill's wife Doris.  "Zim" was hospitalized last Friday with pneumonia and a heart attack.  He seems to be doing reasonably well.  After he improves from the pneumonia, he will have an angioplasty procedure done.  Doris said he was undergoing tests today.  Bill is in Room 5115, Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.  I looked up their website and they do have E-cards available.  These E-cards are quick, easy, and free of charge.  http://www.osfsaintfrancis.org/

It was eleven years ago this December that Bill had his debilitating stroke.

A lot of returnees and newbies aren't familiar with Zimm...he's a great guy with a TON of good and reasonable thoughts about judging our event.
I have spent hours on the phone and e-mailing him to try to absorb some of his knowledge...

He is fairly opinionated, too, about PMPA goings on as well as about others that profess to be the ultimate judges (Zimm holds that, since it is a subjective event, finality cannot be achieved).

A true good guy and teacher....

Update On Zim:

I stopped at St. Francis Medical Center today and visited with Zim, wife Doris, and daughters Cheryl and Gail.  Zim looked really good and had quite an appetite. He said he slept good last night, and he was in good spirits.

It seems now that the pnuemonia was possibly just pnuemonia-type symptoms caused by blockage in the heart.  However, the blockage is too much for an angioplasty and he must have bypass surgery.  The family was waiting to talk to the surgeon.  Zim could possibly have bypass surgery as early as Wednesday.

The family has really appreciated all thoughts, prayers, and E-cards.  To send a free E-card go to this website:

Update as of Thursday evening:

Bill Zimmer had a quadruple bypass Wednesday.  According to his daughter Gail, he is now out of ICU and has been walked a couple times.  Also he has been sitting up most of the afternoon.  Things have gone well.  His new room number is 5116.
