Ty,

Spent the evening at the daughters house, carving pumpkins, eating, and playing with the grandkids. They get a lot of kids in their upscale neighborhood, so it was lots of fun.

We left a large bowl of candy bars, (and yes your favorite Reeses Peanut Butter cups as well) on the lighted front porch, with a sign to please leave some for others, and be sure to come again next near.

Came home to a bowl still full, and that just breaks my heart. Halloween used to be such great fun when we were kids, and when our kids were little, but people no longer trust their kids out alone, or visiting homes of people they do not know.

How sad that we have let a few sadistic degenerates, spoil what used to be a great time for kids.

Halloween have always been a weird time for me. I was born about 3 hours after midnight, just missing Halloween (mush to my superstitious mother's relief. Hey, being born on All Saints Day isn't all bad, I guess. Anyway, for all that, I've never been much of a Halloween guy (though the Celtic myths surrounding it are interesting). And besides, I don't have to worry about trick-or-treaters much. We live a bit off the beaten path.

I live in a modular home development, ( for those not in the current venacular, its a trailer park where none of the trailers have metal siding and they sit flush to the ground instead of up on stilts) When I was groing up, we always targeted such places because of the higher density of houses. We had exactly ONE set of kids tonight, it was kinda depressing in a way, I miss seeing the little munchkins all dressed up, but then it was a lot more fun when moms used to make costumes instead of the plastic silly things they have now. I heard one of the residence halls on campus actually promoted an indoor trick or treat for local kids, thats four floors of dorm rooms, the candy was sponsored for all the residents to give out. Sounds like a controled "safe" way to do it,, well unless a couple coeds decided to "party" and some kid gets a bigger treat than was planned lol,,,

I live so far back up in the piney woods that in the 31 years the wife and I have lived hear we have never had any trick or treaters come by!
The strange noises from model airplane engines ,race car, kart and boats and odd explosions from time to time dont help I think. Have you ever seen a full can of starting either blow up? the big can? COOL!

Yeah I have mixed emotions about trick and treating. After giving out 40 bucks worth of candy they egged my car last year. So this year didn't do it for the 1st time since 1953 at this house, nothing .  their parents don't teach them anything .  We did have a bunch ring the door bell and all yell " trick or treat " all together real good ! It made me sad that I didn't keep the tradition going . Maybe next year . who knows

Each year I leave it up to someone in the family to give out the treats.  Used to be I was in the basement doing something.  Now I get to go to the shop where I don't hear the knock at the door.  Grandma takes all the grand kids to the WalMart halloween thing her store does and then out to the area that is supposed to be better neighborhoods.

Last night I realized that all the kids that came to our door were very young and that their parent or parents were just behind them.  In all cases the kids said "Thank you".  We did have only about 8 visits last night and the doorbell stopped ringing at 8PM.  We have never had any trouble in this small town in the 11 years we have lived here. The other town was a nightmare of trashing, verbal abuse and vandalism.  Something to be said about living in a small community. By the way, most of the costumes were home made, including a delightful angel of about 4 who just had to satnd on the poarch telling me all about her Holloween adventure, her costume and a whole bunch of talk I simple didn't understand, She got a big candy bonus!

Last night, I had a pizza and watched the Yankee game.  I am not the kind of person that wants to get dressed up and to go get candy.  Even when I was in 5th grade I didn't really want to go trick or treating anymore, it got old.  Now I'm in 10th grade and do absolutely nothing realted to Halloween, not even carve pumpkins

Hey Ty; I'll say "hello" to your wife . . . if I see her. My wife and I are pulling out in a few minutes and heading for CO. We'll spend the next week in Snowmass Village, near Aspen. Then on to Great Falls MT to spend Thanksgiving. As always, my wife will be checking all the candy sales too  . The down side of this means no flying for a month

We live in a typical established suburban area and get 20-30 kids each year.  It was a bit cool last night (38º) but dry.  We ran out of candy right about 8pm and only had one additional group of kids ring the bell after we running out.

On the downside, the wife had to work overnight at her retail establishment in a not-so-desirable part of town.  She just was reassigned to this store as mgr. a few weeks ago and has had to make some personnel changes - i.e., dismissals for no-show, no-call behaviors.

Evidently one of the affected (or a totally random act) resulted in her '07 Camry Hybrid being the victim of a glass breakage event.  Nothing inside the car was bothered which leads us and the LEO investigating the call to believe it was retaliation motivated.  Rear driver door side glass was whacked.  Spent most of this afternoon with the shop vac getting all the shards.

So I get to spend my Monday morning taking the vehicle to an autoglass shop, using public transit to get to work then picking up the car in the afternoon.  Luckily, we have a $0 deduction for glass damage but I have to burn several hours of annual leave.

We were in Madison Wisconsin watching the badgers spank Purdue.  My oldest son is considering both Wisconsin and Purdue, so this was a lot of fun.  Got home just in time to miss the little kids. 

Also saw a lot of freaky people, Madison has a great party.  goggle freakfest Madison.  It was a lot more fun before it got out of hand, now it is regulated quite a bit.

Today is the day when combat fliers venture out to the stores to get good deals on orange and black table cloths.  Cut up they make great streamers.

Like some of you guys I stayed in...it was raining anyway here in central Georgia
so I watched the Gators spank the Bulldogs..(most of my family are Fla alumni)
but I have lived here in Ga for 30 years.  I just don't do the trick or treat scene
and my wife was out shopping with some friends anyway.  She used to take the kids around our neighborhood but they are all grown and married.   We live in a
quiet mostly military area and just don't have any problems...plus we look out
for potential problems and don't hesitate to call the police...some of whom are
neighbors themselves.
