Hi.  After completing the E-Sakitumi from the great kit provided by Walter Umland (builtrightflyright.com ), there was more than enough wood left over to build another plane of half-A size.  So I'm building a Big Otto from plans provided by Dennis Leonhardi of Air Classix (www.ebay.com/str/sirclassix

I also flew the Big Otto as a kid.  Great performer, had tons of fun with it.  I think it was a Scientific kit back then?

I built the Scientific kit back around 1973.  One of the best builds I'd done up to that point, as I remember.  Sad to say it did not perform as others here state. It kinda lumbered through the air.  No idea why that was. Just another stepping stone to Ringmaster Jr. and Sr.'s was all it was.  Knowing what I know now I wonder if I was flying it on to long of lines or not enough engine off-set maybe?  It had a Cox .049 Baby Bee on it (saved from a Cox PT-19 trainer).  Was straight, relatively light as I recall.  I expected great things from it but it was a bit of a dog.  Don't remember what end it met.

Ken and Shawn Cook were flying one just yesterday. Flew great!

              The Big Otto is quite nose heavy. I pulled the nose in 1/2". I also made the nose projection skinnier than stock.   The tail booms I used were made out of 1/16" ply and I  added a basswood elevator. I still have 1/4oz. on the tailboom. I left room for a small wedge Perfect tank which I can add later due to the short run of the integral Bee engines. It was neat to see it flying and the maneuverability was better than I thought it was going to be.

I also slightly shortened the nose. Since mine is electric, I placed the battery far back in order to balance.
