Bi-Slob Prop on a Fox 35 ????

Anyone flying a Bi-Slob with a Fox 35? If so what type and size prop are you using.

Best prop for mine is an old TopFlite 10x6 paddle...   But, they are getting a bit scarce....    and I tend to fly a bit       toooo close to the ground...       the yellow KF from Germany was good also but haven't seen them for a while either...   The old Master Airscrew really sucked...    FWIW

The KF prop is available thru Hobby Lobby.

I like to use somewhere between a 9.5 and 10" prop, usually 5 or 6 pitch.  Lately I've been using ratty used APC's with the tips ground down... I seem to have an endless supply from buying used RC engines, and odd lots on Ebay.  They get cleaned up, rebalanced, and subjected to grass cutting duty on the Bi-Slob.  I ran an APC 9.5x6 for a long time and it worked well.

I'm using a Brodak BYO prop---they are available. I save my un-obtainium TF props for other planes where the probability of breaking the prop is less. I'm guessing the a Zinger 10-5 or 10-6 would be fine too. I don't say these are optimum, but I am not sure how much optimum matters on the Bi-Slob.

BigIron has it right on the money.  10x5APC is the prop of choice for Fox 35 stunt in most applications.

We broke the one that you had on there some time ago and I could not remember what size it was. I just found out that all props are not the same. MA may be the cat's meow for one setup but not another.
APC 10x5 will replace the MA that is on the Bi-Slob now.

Just out of curiosity, what is it that makes the APC 10-5 work so well? Of course I could simply put one on and see for myself, but like I mentioned before in my post, I'm not sure what really matters---as long as you can adjust the Fox to give you the thrust you want.

I'll be bringing mine to Sig to fly after the Saturday dinner, so I hope others do to. I'd like to see what other folks are doing with them.

John (Barefoot) Paris has it right. APC is the prop. Although we use 10/4 on Foxes. A good Fox has no problem with High rpm/ low pitch. There is a reason the 3-D r/cers use low pitch. Its spelled --HOVERING. Try a 10/4 APC.       Rainman  aka  Gary T.

I don't know about anyone else, but I run a standard vented tank and launch the plane running so fat it'll barely get off the ground.  Due to the normal RPM change with the tank, the end of the flight has the engine running much faster.  It allows a wide range of engine performance allowing for a fun flight with lots of variety.

That is more or less what I do. That video of mine was the first flight this year. I didn't touch a thing on the Fox. I took off the tank compartment cover and checked to see if the 4oz Sullivan klunk looked ok (plumbed as a CL "Standard"), filled with Sig 5%Nitro, 25% Castor, and started it. Ran pretty good. As I fly more during the season, I tend to get more daring. Sometimes it is so rich, it almost won't take off. So in that case you can do a lot of hovering like stuff, and as it leans out you can go for the endless wingover! This flight was a bit leaner since the air was somewhat cool (in the 60's at most), so there was more O2 available.

I am curious to see what other guys are doing. My question about the APC was more whether it is the pitch, or maybe the heavier prop, or maybe it is just a better overall prop. I am not sure about the pitch of my BYO. The label has worn off and I am too lazy to pitch it! I do have a bunch of old Top Flight 10-3.5" Pitch props I might try, basically because I don't have any other use for them.

Anyway it is a hoot to fly these things. I probably haven't tried hard enough because I am still on my first one and haven't really crashed yet! And the Fox is just amazing!

I'm on my second Bi-Slob, almost my third if you count recycling the wings and stab/elevator with a new fuselage.  My first Slob was back in 93 and I burned up all 9 lives in a flash.  The wings and tail pieces made it through two fuselages before there wasn't anything left to glue back together but CA and castor soaked balsa...  I passed the intact wings and stab/elevator on to another club member when we moved in 95.  My second Bi-Slob was 2 years old in January.  Up until June of last year it hadn't been crashed, but it yo-yo'd on the lines, came across the circle and cartwheeled in, raining chunks of balsa.  I counted 23 individual pieces. The wings stayed intact, so it was a fairly quick fix.  So far this season I've wiped the rudder off twice, and broke the stabilizer loose during a rough touch and go.  The nature of the Bi-Slob lends itself to repairs, and the crashes are usually spectacular!

I don't know that I'd consider the Bi-Slob to be too picky about props.  I run whatever I've got around.  My first was flown with Master Airscrew 10x6's.  When I put the current Slob together, I had a bunch of APC's with fouled up tips, so that's what I've been using.  The 10x5 APC makes for a really nice run on a Fox 35, for whatever reason.  I don't think that it matters too much on a Bi-Slob, but it's probably as good as any other choice.

I suppose you mean silver.  There was only black, white, and silver.  I'm pretty sure that the white & silver were the same soft plastic.  I wouldn't mind knowing where a few of those 10-6 silver tri-blades could be purchased, now that Tony Jr. finally gave up his half-hearted try at keeping Grish going. 

Incidentally, for a Fox 35, I would choose the Tornado 9-6 tri-blade, rather than the 10-6.

I use an 11x4 APC prop on a Fox .35 with my Bi-Slob.
