Bi-Slob event?

Seeing Allen post in the other Bi-Slob thread got me to thinking.... hmmmm.
I know some folks have done balloon bust with slobs, but what about some type of fun stunt event?

Take off,
inside loop to hover,
Level laps,
Hover and climb to top of the circle,
level laps,
inverted flight,
outside loop to hover,
clover leaf in one spot,
Horz - hour glass,

Just me thinking out loud.

What I think would be cool (I posted about it a couple years ago) is having a freestyle event like the 3D RC guys do.  You have a set time to do your routine, and doing it to music.  then the judging could be a simple 1-10 based on the routine that you did and how exciting it was.

  I propose doing  all the maneuvers you describe, Paul, with scoring based on the minimum number of laps flown. That would really test some skill and make a Slob perform at it's maximum. I have a ARF example out in the garage that needs to be assembled one of these days. I have always been in awe of Jim lee when watching him fly his, and there was a local guy here in St. Louis that some of you may remember, Emil Kedroe, that could really wring one out. I'll be watching the developments on this closely!

I think the only event appropriate to the Bi-Slob would be a "slow" race wherein the idea is to, from level flight, perform a simple wingover. Longest elapsed time from entry to completion of the maneuver wins. The dedicated Bi-Slob enthusiast will of course, on a particularly good run, simply hammer the thing into the ground in order to gain a few hundredths of a second.

From there it is a simple matter to do what we always do in aermodeling events creating enough classes of competition so that a strong field is reduced to only 1 or 2 folk per class. As Bi-Slob enthusiasts are "special" in a nudge-nudge wink-wink sort of way the usual Beginner/Novice/Advanced/Expert classes ought be rejected as not reflecting this special status. A suggestion would be to begin with "I Don't Ignore Other Things" class at the bottom with "Galaxy Class Supremacy" pretty much toward the upper end while leaving classes such as "Putz of the Universe" available to those who are merely competent to use in booting consistent winners up and out of "their" class.

There are a great many other classes of competition which could be formulated and I have quite a lot of faith in this happening even if it will be hard to beat an existing class of PA competition, that of "National Champion, Beginner Precision Aerobatics."

The club tried a Bi-Slob event last year that was to be free style.  A Boy Scout group were the judges.  As there were so few entries a couple of speed limit combat planes were allowed to enter.   Needless to say the speed limit planes won the first two places.  I got third by doing my normal routine of fun flying with very little hanging of the plane.  Loops, inverted flying, speed and low to the ground is what got the judges eyes.

No free style a the fall contest this year.  I think they are going to do balloon bust/burst. jeh

Freestyle stunt has been tried here and there, but has not caught on as a continuing event, so far as I know.  Doing it properly is a challenge. The flight needs to be choreographed, music or not, and the maneuvers need to flow seamlessly from one to the next.  I've seen a flight flown that way, and was impressed.
