Bi-Slob controls setup questions
« on: December 30, 2006, 08:30:10 AM »
I am finishing up a pair of plans built bislobs, they have been kicking around in my shop for a while now.  The first one is all assembled and ready for paint.  I am having issues with the control setup.

Even after cutting and relieving, I am only getting about 45 or 50deg of up and about 70 deg of down at the elevator.  It seems the flap horn hits the wing sheeting at full up.  How much control to you really need?  Is that enough?

I used a large SIG horn in the closest hole (about 3/8 inch).  I had to carve up the rear fuse under the top wing to get clearance for the top flap.

Also what hardware works the best for this linkage?  I am using a Sig 3in belcrank.  I connected the pishrod combat style with a wheel collar and a bolt, so I have adjustment.  I could not think of a better way to do it.

I have only 50 degrees both directions on both of the Slobs I have.  Guess that is why I can't get the hover done yet.  Also lack of practice too.  DOC Holliday

You don't need or want very much flap throw. I use a long Sig horn, and the outside hole for the flaps. This might give you a little more elevator throw. I learned from Jim Lee and Marvin Denny that if you have to much flap throw at very slow speed, or in a hover, the elevator has no effect, and the flaps take over, and controls are reversed. Not a good thing.

The link will take you to a short video of Bi-Slobs in action.

I took a couple pix of the elevator on my ARF Bi-Slob. Up/Down. Works just fine with these throws. So if you guys are somewhere close it should work just fine!!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! y1
