BI-SLOB ARRIVES!!(Finished)(pic)
« on: January 25, 2010, 03:56:14 PM »
Postman delivered the Bi-Slob ARF that I was fortunate enough to win in the January Stunthanger drawing. Looks pretty cool....I'm gonna get started on it right away.  Gotta dig up another Fox 35.  Anyone been successful using another engine out there?  I got lots of other 35's in the engine box.

I think Dan or Neil had a OS .35 at Brodaks.

My partner started out with a Fox 35. After several rebuilds, it ended up with an OS LA 46.

Phil,
The Bi-Slobs we fly "over here" all have Fox .35's.
Almost enough of them around to have a Bi-Slob Fly-a-Thon!   AP^

The Bi-Slob was designed around the Fox 35 Stunt I beleive.  What other engine will take off almost blubbeing rich and then lean out like a Fox.   %^@

It is hard to imagine a Bi-SLob with an LA46. :o

Has anyone tried reducing the wild offsets and trimming / flying a Bi-Slob like a conventional stunter?

Ron Pavloer used the early Fox .25 and of course the Fox .35. The Fox, as Doc said, has absolutely the best characteristics. Why use a .46?

Fellow Chicagoland Circle Cutter member Brad Jungheim has a BiSlob powered by a Fox .36 (see attached picture). It initially did not give a good 4-2-4 break like a Fox Stunt .35 so he (I believe) reduced the size of the venturi opening. It now runs much like a Fox Stunt .35 and powers the BiSlob in a most enjoyable manner #^.

Phil:

I am pretty sure that there is a federal law that states "Only Fox 35's may be used as power for a BiSlob".  I sure would hate to see the FBI come looking for you.

I have my new Slob finished (complete w/Fox 35, of course), but it is still untested.  Maybe this weekend or next week sometime.

Got it finished except that I had to order a fuel tank so I'm waiting.  I did put a Fox 35 in it, now my Ringmaster is sans engine.  I need a good crankcase to replace the one I dinged at Huntersville.

Phil,
I have a Fox .35 crankcase if you want it. Don't remember the history on it. It seems to be ok. I was going to buy a new p/l set and put it together but after I saw what Fox wanted for this I decided to pass. I don't know if you are aware but you can send a used engine to Fox and they will sell you a new engine for half price. From what I understand it can be any glow engine. With the Fox .35 listing at $98.00 you would pay $49.00 for a new one.
Let me know if you would like the used crankcase.

Dave Ek tried it several years ago. I think it had either an OS 40 or 46LA with a heavy hub. The flaps weren't functional and just floated in the breeze if I'm remembering correctly. I'll see if I can find a picture.

I used an OS 25 FP, and my buddy has an LA 25 in his.  Both work great.  The 25's work good with 10-4 or 9-5 props.

Is the Florida East Coast becoming BI-Slob world headquarters? n~ n~ LL~ LL~
Never flew a Slob but I have watched. Hmmmm is it really fun? Lots of near crashes and of course the real thing I have seen. If you all write in and say you are going to have a Bi-Slob fly in I will contact Sam's and get one just so I can get into the Act. Please also include any flying tips you can offer.

I like that Phil,  Slobs are supposed to be fun.  Everytime I fly mine people stop and watch.  Can't convince them I am just learning to fly.
