Best Position For Plane Storage

Over the years I've heard some unusual and sometimes compelling arguments for how people store their planes. Most are concerned about the engine bearings. So how do you guys do it and why?

Nose Up... nose down.... level or none of these.

Planes are level, but the engines are out for storage so I suppose it doesn't matter.

I hang mine from the tail on the wall, nose down. Takes alot of space but oil drips out the front rather than down the whole fuse.

Best thing I have had luck with is to apply after run oil and then wrap the engine in a plastic bag!
You gonna get a lot of ideas on this one!

Uhhh...Depending on the brand of wheels....for example, My old SuperChip...started having flat spots on the tires (from hanging by the tail nose down:) ...and I had to place a piece of old balsa scrap into the wheel pant to lift it off the wall slightly.

The last time I flew off a parking lot....I noticed after the touch down landing the weird little fluttering sound that I mistakenly thought was a wheel about to fall off.

Yes, that can be a problem if you let them sit for a long time on foam wheels. I occasionally spin the wheels.

I hang my piped ships nose up, by the L.G. to allow the pipe to drain. Others by the tail wheel.

Nose down on stunt ships with inverted engine,  and either nose down or in normal position with side mounted engine profile and combat ships.

I was told years ago that with a plane bearing engine nose up or down does not much matter, but with a ball bearing engine always nose up to allow all the liquids to drain down and away from the bearings.  Now do I follow these rules, ah no.

I hang mine by the lead out lines.  My father and I have been doing it that way for over 60 years combined, no ill-effects.

as ward stated the crud in your pipe  needs to stay out of your engine. that is how they should be hung.ex. down
