After much consideration and discussion with my wife. We have decided to stay put here in Nashville. Our quality of life is pretty good here and even though other cities ranked high with us, we feel staying is the right choice for our family. Thanks for all the great input on flying sites. I must admit I'm a tad disappointed that we are not embarking on a new adventure.  :)!

Ahhhh. Does not the wife have a say? Also you say you are a live at home dad. I would have recommended Florida but considering what happened here n the safest city in FLorida you may wish to keep the kids out of a state with as lax gun laws as Florida has. Near larger Florida population centers you have far more things to do than just fly CL which the wife would appreciate.

Actually, according to recent news releases what Florida has ( at least Broward County Fla.) is a very lax Anti-gun Sheriff that seems to have promoted the severity or perhaps even the occurrence of the incident in that school by his lack of proper activity with regard to proper policing policy and activity.

Actually there is no indication whatsoever that Lax Gun control had anything to do with the incident.  Just Lax police training and disregard for several blatant indicators that the incident was likely to happen!  Even the FBI ignored several blatant indicators and testimonials that said the incident was forthcoming!  Almost seems like someone wanted it to happen.  Of course that couldn't be!  Could IT??  The FBI leadership couldn't be Anti Gun!  Could IT?

Strange that these incidents always happen in so called "Gun Free Zones"!  Hmmm...  Could that possibly be an open invitation to Nitwits like this "shooter"?

Hmmmmm.....Very confusing indeed.  At least to simple minds!

These incidents do always pre-seed a flurry of anti-gun activity that always seems to be waiting in the wings!

Hmmmmmmm....

Howard is right.  The Left Coast does have plenty of C/L activity.  The only problem is the weather.  WestCoasters are somehow immune to cold, rain, and biting wind.  I often watch the contests from the warmth of my auto, with heater running.

FL sounds nice, but my experience with "Bugland" isn't that good.  The creepy-crawlers are bad enough, but the thought that nearly everyone packs heat disturbs me. (Even little old ladies in the supermarket are armed!)

I would mention that not only does Tucson Arizona have great Control Line activity and a community supported excellent place to fly but also has some very fine schools and although it has the most Gun-friendly laws of anyplace in the world has never has anything like the school shootings other places have!  A very large percentage of the population carry guns legally!  Bad guys beware!  Not a smart place to start trouble!

Can't beat Florida for the snowbird activities ,but the wind  this winter has been too strong for flying- at least on the east coast.

Hi Frank!  Not to be disrespectful but where are you talking about?  It doesn't sound like our area of the Space Coast!!  Our little group has flown nearly every Tuesday and Saturday morning since October (after the 2017 hurricane).  Since I keep a flight log I can verify every date we've flown of had to postpone due to rain or wing.  Honestly, it's so totally kool to be able to look back and see who flew and what the weather was like.

I've been traveling for work coast to coast and North to South, searched out multiple clubs and flying sites- here's my $0.02
NE - north of Philly / Newark C/L activity is sparse, winters are a bear and taxes... well it is the Empire State.

SE - from VA down to FL there are enclaves of flying- don't get to this area much so I have no 1st hand knowledge, but weather is decent- you are in TN so more in tune.

FL - Tampa/ Clearwater, Cocoa / Melbourne, Jacksonville and Winter Haven all have small groups of active fliers, weather is decent- summers bad- but Oct- April has some fine flying weather. King Orange used to draw pretty good each Jan, but keeping sites is always a problem in FL, and everywhere.
I live in Orlando- but rarely get to fly when home- to many Honey Do's before I head out each time...

Midwest- Chicago, Minneapolis, Fargo(?) all have clubs and an excellent building season..., but up North in mid summer you can fly till after 9 at night. long drives to any contest.

TX, AZ, NM,  - Dallas, Houston, Phoenix, Tucson, ABQ/ Santa Fe/Los Alamos all have active fliers and clubs. Combat and Stunt, a bit of racing. Great weather, friendly fliers and great food- I hit Phoenix fairly regularly and there are some great guys there- GO TEAM VOODOO!

CA - not on my route.... plenty others can provide the low down.

NW - Except for the 1000% humidity  and taxes - CL heaven!  Drive Vancouver B.C. through  Seattle to The CA border and you will have 1/2 dozen active C/L clubs, world class fliers and builders, great contests. Lots of outdoor recreation, and local seafood, beer, wine, and fruit that will make you fat if you don't get out and fly!  I would have moved here a decade ago- but the roots took hold in Florida.

In the past 7 years, 250,000 people have fled from California. The number is growing every day.

So, are you thinking "Quality of life" also?"

There are different issues in different states which should also be considered.

I voluntarily left California 25 years ago, and it was one of the best things I've ever done. I miss the weather, but in all other respects, from politics to taxes and everything in between, life is so much better elsewhere.

I follow national politics, have for almost 40 years. CA is really bad and getting worst. There are a half dozen states almost as bad, but in different ways.

Fox News, just did a bit on CA.

The wife and I did three 5K mile road trips looking for a place to relocate.

I actually wanted Chattanooga but 'she' decided on Florida only because she already had some friends there.

I've been to Nashville and many other places in Tennessee back in the 60's when I was stationed at Ft Campbell.

I'm still going to try to get the wife to relocate again to Tennessee when she retires.

I just love that state and the people are friendly.

Well, most.   LL~

Wichita, Kansas has to be the ideal location! We have 2 paved circles, in an area donated by the city to the Wichihawks that we have been able to use since the late 70s, or early 80s. It is strictly a control line field. In addition to the 2 completely paved circles with their centers, there are three pads for Pilots to fly from the grass.

Anyone who has been to Wichita, has been able to see that our facility ranks among the greatest in the country, for Control Line flying, and should be utilized to greater extent!
I will build it. It's gonna be really difficult to find me with an ARF. I know every bit of my airplane!

Uh, having lived up the road in Salina for a few years, would you say that there is anything else a stunt flier might want to know about central Kansas? Something perhaps related to the brisk sales of door stops?

I would never have believed what has happened here in the ~35 years I have been here. It's nearly unrecognizable, and while I have absolutely loved my time here, it has to end soon, because it's essentially intolerable. The *only* chance, which is very slim, is splitting the nutcase areas like the Bay Area and LA off and forming the proposed state of Jefferson. That's about as likely as getting struck by a meteorite, so don't hold your breath.

How's the wind there!

I used to go to Wichita often to shoot handgun silhouettes and the wind always blew about 25 mph!  Sometimes about 40 mph!

Hello
As an outsider from New Zealand you have lost me  , what are/is Jivetts ?

NZ is not the best place to live for control line with so few of us C/L flyers here but I'm sure there is worse somewhere else on the Globe.

Anybody holidaying in NZ I'm sure would still find some good C/L events here over your winter and two circles to fly on where i live!

Jivettes are the Jive Combat Team's camp followers.  The Jive Combat Team requires a little more explanation, but you can use the search function here or on SSW(http://www.clstunt.com/htdocs/dc/dcboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=103) to get an idea.

There has been considerable activity in NZ in the past.  You usually have a combat contingent at the world champs.  Paul Lagan has come to our Nationals.   NZ had a nice Google CL event map which I copied for a North American stunt calendar map.

I would like to go to a contest in New Zealand sometime.  My wife went on a garden tour there a few years ago, but refused to take me along.

Is the term "camp followers" universal to the English (-ish) language? The term is said to have come about during our Civil War, when families and "universal girlfriends" followed the troops from battle to battle. The term "Hookers" also came about then, because of General Hooker and his girlfriends, who became known as "Hooker's Girls".  LL~ Steve

Thanks Steve and Howard for the explanation.
Control Line has its own rich culture and heritage and a history I realize I know little of.

New Zealand and in particular Auckland has the largest city here with over 1.5 million people but probably less then a dozen keen C/L flyers.
Was much more active here in the past and we have lost may great flyers over the years.

It is nice to read the Stunt-hangar forum and see that so much activity and enthusiasm for the hobby/sport still exists .

Howard:  Here's the secret that control-line is not taking advantage of:

1.   We are a minority group (meaning that there are not very many of us in CL stunt).

2.   Better than that, we are a minority ethnic group (it is by now clear that ethnicity is anything you say it is and not really related to actual biological grouping, so I'm claiming that I am of the "Stuntino" ethnicity).

3.   We are completely underrepresented in getting our "piece of the pie" (meaning flying sites.  I'm going to ignore the fact that most of us are retired and living off the Social Security payments that our kids are making...)

I am planning the million-flyer Stuntino March on Washington.  (Planned for the day I drive home from Brodaks via the beltway.)
