Title: Best Cleaner
Post by: rich gorrill on December 07, 2013, 08:27:00 AM
What's best for cleaning up castor and fuel residue before a repaint? I tried windex but it doesn't seem right. Has anyone tried ammonia and water or vinegar and water? I don't want to start painting with dope and have it not stick.

Thanks

Rich

You can try Dupont prep-sol 3919s, doesn't hurt any paint. Cleans oil off prior to painting, wear gloves, or it will dry out your skin.

Prep Sol 3919 is primarily naptha. Acetone is also a good solvent/cleaner for surface prep prior to paint. With either, wipe the surface with a solvent rag followed immediately by wipe down with a clean, dry rag.

I agree with the DuPont Prep Sol.  It cleans really well and doesn't leave any residue like some of the other things mentioned.

prep sol ... if used properly is the best pre paint prep ... wipe it on, let it dry, than wipe it off with a dry towel ...
