Best .15 flier Opinions wanted

Hello all,

I have limited space in my yard to fly. I am wanting to build something that is akin to a full size stunter. My dedicated full size circle is an hour drive from my place. Not complaining or anything, but just want to practice more.

So if anyone has any idea of what plane might work best for me I am all ears.

Not too keen on the Akromaster.

The Cub takes the handsome plane award by far. I like the idea of the Challenger though as it looks easier to build and repair as I progress past the beginner pattern.

Now... Do any of these designs lend itself to being underpowered to fly on shorter lines say around 45-50ft. I think most modern .15's would tend to fly too quick with the room I have to work with even if I de-pitch the prop.

Here is a picture of my back area/flying site.

Currently I fly 1/2A here and while I have a couple that will fly a passable pattern I would like to slow it down a little which is why the curiousity for .09-.15 ships.

   Wish I knew you were looking for a .15 size plane when you were here, I could have shown you a bare bones Challenger, and given you a rebuildable hulk of a Ringmaster Jr.!! The Challenger is a nicely designed model, and even with a FP or LA.15, I think you should be able to prop it for a speed you need for the line length you need. If you can get a .09 of some flavor, the Shark .15 and the SIG Akromaster could bothe probably be flown with an .09 on that line length. I have thought about a really light Akromaster with a Norvel .061 on it on 45 foot lines or so. Another one of those "one of these days" projects! In thinking about it, any of the models mentioned with a .10 on it might work on that line length, if you can find a LA.10.

What about the Aeromodeller Peacemaker. George designed it for the Oliver Tiger and it flies really well. There is a plan for it on Hippocket Aeronautics or maybe Outerzone.

I have always wondered about Baxter's KISS?  He also has a few other interesting & obscure plans for a .15 sized planes.  Magician, Shark, & Challenger are my top three. All on that long to build list.

I think your need is a less powerful engine, maybe something like the old Fox steel fin 15s.  I've flown Shark 15 and Jr Flite Streak with TD 09.  I used 55 ft lines on the Shark, and 57 ft lines on the Streak.  Maybe a Medallion 09 would work for you.

I have a .15 Magician with flaps that flies very well. The best flying .15 I have is a Pat King ringmaster Jr.  Both are powered by OS .15 FP's with mufflers and stay tight on the lines.  Maybe Pat will chime in, but I think his Ringmaster Jr has a thicker airfoil.

Blue Pants - Aeromodeller plan. Winner of the 1954 International, sometimes referred to as the World Championships. For .15 size engines, original had an E.D. Racer diesel, I've got one on the stocks for O.S. 15.

John wright has a box full of trophies won with a .15 powered PDQ Clown. Often first place. Rather fast, but consistent and smooth. It flies like a real OTS plane, not a pokey old Humungous or Jamison.

Larry, I need to slow it down! I have a set of plans for the PDQ version of the flying Clown and do want to build one.

Dan, it never occurred me to ask about .15 models. I was still reeling from "the tour" 

I have considered the Magician and will check on the others suggested. Basically I want to build something that flies slower than 1/2A, will do a full pattern with ease and fly on shorter than .15 standard 52' lines. Maybe .09 TD or Medallion powered.

Tall order I'm sure!

      Hi:

       For today's big and powerful .15 engines, I would suggest a full sized Flite Streak.  For .15's from yesteryear, I would suggest the Shark .15 flown on 52' lines.

       I have flown the Shark .15 many miles with the old Fox .15 plain bearing slant plug  and a ST. G.15. With either engine, it was a great stunter!  I am now flying a full sized Flite Streak with a ST G20/.15D and a ST G20/.23 glow engine  again flown on 52' lines  Both engines  provide enough power and speed to stunt well!
