Yep Jim Lee's Trixtor twin.  He admits he changed stooges when he shouldn't have.  Inboard engine quit in wrong spot of pattern.  The weather here has been supurb until right before noon.  DOC Holliday

Hey Ty, you are not getting luckier, your getting smarter.  Now you know why I pulled out in the first round.  That wind was something.  Today was mucho better, but, Jack Sheeks did it to me again.  When I had the Staggerwing I asked him for a launch.  I left out inverted laps.  Today he states he could not help, but, Charley Mackey could if I would let him.  Two of my heros of modeling.  Yes I left out the triangles.  Did do them after the clover just to make sure the Spit would do it.  Much better plane than the pilot.  DOC Holliday

Jim,
Whether in calm or in storm, your expressions are ALWAYS priceless!  What a shame to see that happen.

I ended putting the remains in the round recepticle....    :'(  :'(   :'(   :'(      Aft of the wing was mostly dust and the wing looked a bit iffy...   I was not at  all happy with the way the finish turned out anyway....    the motors survived in good shape, so who knows....   I was definately looking forward to flying it this summer but things don't always turn out like we want...  HB~>

I even pulled it out of the can, believe me Jim aint telling a lie.  The really sad part was the plane was a really good flyer and fun to watch.  I love how Jim scores landings, I had six or seven on my last flight with the Lil' Ziltch.  The engine went flat and could barely keep it in the air, in fact the final landing was made with the motor still turning over.  Jim starts with the first touch and starts counting down with each of the following touches.  No matter how much I complained, Jim stuck to his guns. y1  All kidding asside hats off to all the judges at VSC these people are dedicated.

The remains of the twin were last seen headed for California in John Wright's van.
Think S.M.A.L.L. y'all and, it's all good, CL, FF and RC!

Hey Jim, knowing John you may be flying against it next year.  Amazing to find out he is still flying a plane he flew in the very first VSC.  If I remember right, that is the only one you have missed.  DOC Holliday

Hi Doc. John Wright has been a great pilot in OT for some time now. He'll probably win the 40th VSC with the same Barnstormer. There's a lot of old planes out there. The Thunderbird II that I flew in this years VSC was built in 1978 (30 years ago) and flown at the 1981 nats in Seguin Texas. I flew it at the first VSC in Whittier Narrows in 1989 the year that John flew the Barnstormer. I think Ted Fancher still has the 59 Ares that he flew at the first VSC if I can recall the conversation correctly from this years VSC. Knowing John he will probably rebuild the twin and be flying it shortly. I've attached an in flight picture taken by David Russum of my Thunderbird II.
Hope to see you next year at VSC 21 !!
