Title: Ben had a tough weekend
Post by: James Mills on August 28, 2011, 06:19:04 PM
It's been a rough few weeks on planes for Ben, lost 3 in the last 3 weeks, 2 this weekend HB~>.  I told him that the growing pains can be tough.  I'm proud of him for keeping a pretty good attitude.

Well, it's repairable, at least. Another good lookin' kid; probably got it from his Ma.

I believe I know why he crashed. He needs some cool looking sunglasses. Probably got hit by Zeros from out of the Sun, and he couldn't see them before they had him in range.  8) Steve  LL~ LL~ LL~

James,

Ben flew so much better this year, it is apparent he has practiced and you have dedicated the time to him.  Both of you keep up the good work.

Planes are cheap...a Son is priceless ;)

I'm having some problems getting things to post for some reason so I'll try this again.  I told him this is just a part of it.  One thing for sure, we get a plane it's going to die with it's boots on LL~.  I tried to post a couple of more pictures but the site said they were to large (I reduced them to just over 300kb so not sure what to do).

Just hope he doesn't get discouraged with the crashes.  Lost my second one this year.  Thought I knew how to mount bellcranks, but the rod slid out on this one. H^^

Hey James. Tell Ben I broke both the wings off my SkyRay at different times. It's fixable.

James,
Michael did something like that at Brodak's a few years ago but we had the extra pleasure of the fuselage being broken as well.  Actually it was not him flying into the ground, but an engine giving up part way through a maneuver.  Thanks to the proximity of the Brodak Hobby Shop and the use of John's shop we got the rebuild, recovering, test flights and wing tweaking done by that afternoon so that he could keep on flying.  Keep up the good work with your son and I hope to hear that his name gets on the Junior trophy in the near future.

John,

Good to hear from you.  I'm not sure what really happened today, I think something inside the wing may have been binding because it just went straight in.  I think the Skyray may be fixable, not sure about the others.

I would like to know why the rod came out on my setup.  J-B Weld on the bearings that  go in the plywood and epoxy on each end of the rod.  May have to go with wheel collars.   But I think the rods will be replaced with bolts with lock nuts. H^^
