Just an update. it's fixed. I shot clear on it. The bottom is marginal (the white was a problem and now exactly the same color - guess I didn't stir the paint enough since it came out of the same jar). The top looks pretty good. Overall, it's not bad and about the best I could do with the time I had. If the stupid thing will dry in time, I can assemble it and hand it off tomorrow.

Mark,

It doesn't look too bad considering how much the repair was rushed. I'll live with it.

When I only get 10 appearance points, at least I'll have an excuse.

so let me see, in order to have braggin rights then, I need to beat you by at least 8 or 9 points, otherwise you can claim the "damage cost me the win" ,,
hmmm guess I better get my game face on  S?P

And if I can get it into reasonable trim. Hey, I'm going to have fun. Beating Mark would just be a perk.

I hear ya on the whole floaty glide thing Mark, the stupid Curtiss Helldiver thing I built acts the same way. As soon as it quits you need to pick your trajectory and aim for it, with speed. If there is any real breeze and I try to finesse and flare the landing it bites me every time.

Really glad to hear you got things patched up in time Randy, nothing like a good sweat before a contest. This will teach you to build a plane too light. ;D

You guys have a blast in Tucson, will be watching very jealously back here in Minnesota. :(

...and don't forget the cameras!!! y1

So, here's the Avenger both busted and un-busted and ready to go. Not what it was, but it will do.

Whoops, forgot the pictures.

Apart from the damage repair, other things changed from the first flight: Added an ounce and a half to the nose (in parts, I can take some out if it's too much), moved gear forward (go figure) and bent the tail wheel to keep the attitude the same, extended the slider on the elevator as far as it would go (and I can flip over the slider nut to go a bit longer if needed), shortened the pushrod a turn. When I get to Tucson I'll get the handle adjusted correctly for the next flight and I tweaked the flaps since it was riding a touch high in the initial flight.

If I can tame the beast down a bit, should be an OK plane.

Randy you should do better on appearance than I did with my Nobler.  I mean there was no shine to it and the black paint looked just like fish scales.   I got 12 points for that mess. H^^

Yea, I'll bring my camera. The top doesn't look too bad. The bottom is much more obvious. But hey, it is what it is. At least I got over the food poisoning. Back at work today.
