What is the story here?

Very nice.

Hi Linheart,

I see that your beautiful Blue Electric Bearcat has more color than it had last year. It sure looks sharp!

You have demonstrated yet another advantage of ECL; you can finish painting your plane gradually, while still flying it every day! ;-)

Your Bearcat looks brand new, even after 100+ flights. My guess is that it will still look new after 500 flights, and many trophies from now! :-)

Regards,
Rudy

Hi Linheart,
I am glad to see you added trim. This model seems to have turned out to be a great performer and deserves to be finished!! I am looking forward to seeing you fly her at Brodaks.

Now if we can find a way to stop hanger rash........  :P

That looks great.  Is it the Brodak kit version?

If that is the Brodak kit I may have to build one to shoot at the FW!

Combat Stunt anyone? LL~
HUMMM....Almost have full pattern down with left hand and close to being able to do beginner pattern with right hand..This could become a tangled mess! HB~>

That is nice Linheart H^^

This thread is four years old, so no, it's not the Brodak Bearcat. I think I remember Linheart saying it was the classic legal Rabe Bearcat.

I designed the Brodak Bearcat, which is about 90% the size of my big 60 sized Bearcat.  In comparison to the Rabe Bearcat, the Brodak Bearcat is a little smaller (560 squares compared to 585 squares) and is intended for a 40-46 engine.  John Brodak build his prototype at under 40 ounces as I recall.  With care, most builders will be able to produce a nice one in the mid 40 ounce range.  The airfoil is a real lifter, very similar to the Brodak P-40B, which flies well even into the mid 50 ounce range.
All this to say that a radial engine design may be good for an electric as the ample room inside allows a nice amount of options for placement of electric parts, allowing for shifting the CG with the battery placement.  For those wanting to play with the electric game, the Brodak Bearcat could be a good start.

Pat,

Both airplanes are beautiful! Does one fly better than the other (.46 or .60 size)?

A neat thing is that Lin designed his for an ST 46, and then decided to voltify it...it flies real well.

Mike,
I have only flown the big one (60 sized) and it was a sweet flying plane with the Saito 56 at 65 ounces.
As far as the Brodak version goes, an extremely close comparison is the Brodak Profile P-40B (my design also) which has practically the same numbers and airfoil as the Brodak Bearcat.  That being said, there is no reason that the Brodak Bearcat won't fly spectacularly.  Mark Scarborough has a P-40B (electrified) which is in the upper 50 ounce range and still flies very well.  The airfoil is a real heavy lifter.

Thanks Pat, good information. I also have a ARF P-40B that is converted to electric. It has won several contests so I can attest to the flight characteristics.

Mike,
If you electrify a Brodak Bearcat, keep us all in the loop.  That should be fun.  Holler if I can help.  I have the laser warmed up if you need any modified parts for it.
