Battery Repairs!

Battery repairs!

Has your Dremel battery ever died? You checked the price to replace it and found out you could buy a whole new unit, with accessories for five bucks more! Well, I found out yesterday that battery could be REBUILT. Yup! For twenty bucks! Sounds like a deal to me...Went to DISCOUNT BATTERY SUPPLY here in Bradenton Fl. to replace the battery in my computer backup UPS and surge protector. Just for giggles I took my old dead Dremel battery to see if he could resurect it. Yes, he'll replace the four cells with new for $20.00. Likewise he replaced the battery in my computer's UPS for $29.00 insted of $80.00 for a new 650 UPS.

Don't know whether or not you'll have a local DISCOUNT BATTERY SUPPLY store, but I'd look around for something similar. I'll bet you can find someone. He also reminded me that he can rebuild batteries from most cordless power tools. Beats paying high zoot retail for a brand name battery.

I have 3 Makita 9.6 volt drills I really like and even though they are old they still work great. What I discovered is you can buy new aftermarket battery packs off eBay for a really good price. Last ones I bought were 3000mah for $25.00 each. Two before that were 2000mah for $20.00. Origiona ls were 1000mah and only lasted 12 years. The two 2000mah are going on 3 years and still working great, time will tell on the 3000's but so far so good.

I couldn't see anyway to open the originals without cutting and felt this was the better option.

Radio Shack's national advertising claims that they can replace batteries in "all your devices". I don't know if that is done locally, or if they send them out. We have an "Interstate Battery Center" that claims to be able to provide a battery for anything. It might be fun if one of you electricians take your e-stunter in and ask for a battery pack. There is also a chain of "Batteries Plus" stores that claim to have batteries for everything. Disclaimer: I haven't tried any of these services, and have a low regard for the knowledge of the typical Radio Shack and Fry's employees. Q: "Where's the solder?" A: "Whut?" (If it doesn't plug together, they're lost!)  :( Steve

Way back when I applied for a job at Radio Shack. Was turned down because I was over qualified, too technicial.  ~^
