Here's the wing of my Legacy. I've decided not to do the Skyraider right now, just going to change the tips and canopy to my taste. This reminded me again why I'm a scratch builder. Its a Brodak kit which is what I find only fair quality. I was first disappointed with the double line style of the plans, no definitive outlines. I had to replace all the 1/4 square stock if I wanted straight parts. The ribs, though laser cut are vastly inconsistent, I'm sure I could have stack-sanded a set that were much more accurate. All that said, for a kit builder its not bad, I'm just way critical so please don't take this as a slam on John's kits, I am a super picky builder. So ALLOT of sanding will be the keynote of this build, at least the wing since the rest is pretty much built form stock sizes.

This will have MVVS .49 power. I've bought this engine years ago new and have been dying to use it, its said to be excellent so I guess we'll see. I am also building it as a take down model, I'm out of space and will be downsizing me vehicle soon (and no fillets!!!)

Way to go as far as getting in gear for building. I guess we are spoiled by some individual kit makers. I have started on a Brodak Bi-SLob for Melvin. Seems he wore out the last one I built for him. The kit is still a die cut kit, so a little sanding to get the ribs in line. Also I am ready to start Walter's version of the Ringmaster Imperial. Just hope I can do it justice.

Thanks Denny. Yes, going over to help her Monday evening, I hope to get it looking like an airplane. She's having some trouble with the cap strips because the camber is so acute. I invented a little curling tool of parallel dowels that seems to do the trick.

A little more progress. Wing sheeted now and will start bellcrank assembly tomorrow. Stab & elevator ready for sanding. I have to see I'm becoming more critical of this kit. I've had to add to a few ribs to bring them up to the airfoil section. If you site down the straight on tip shot you'll see that the lead-out holes are randomly placed to the point that I will have to do some trimming for clearance. The fixture holes, although I didn't use them are also meandering and I think had I used a jig the problems would have actually been worse. I started looking closely at the fuse sides and doublers today designing my take down features and noticed the wing cutout is grossly oversized and not located as on the plans, not sure what I'm going to do there, I will be bedding the wing and stab so maybe I can just take it up that way.

HAHAHAH, well Dennis, as fair as the tape goes I still had places the had to be reglued, and I guess I get carried away with the clamps but since I started doing it like this I haven't had any of those frikkin little edge gaps that drive me nuts!!!!!

Coming along despite my glue shortage.

Here are the wing nearing completion and the fuse underway. This will be a take down model so you can see I have the lower area of the fuselage cut out. This whole system will interlock tying all the parts together.

Power is MVVS .49

I see there are angled formers in the fuse. Is that per the kit or your idea? The wing looks great.

That's a kit feature John, pretty nice but the kit isn't really all that well engineered unfortunately. I'm finding many little issues I will write up and sent to John, I'm quite disappointed for what I paid for it, I'd have done myself a favor buying just the plans which it normally what I'd do. Oh well, lesson relearned.

I've changed the tip shapes and the rudder shape and will be using a larger canopy to personalize the model. I never found this airplane attractive but am continually impressed by its capabilities when I judge. I'm giving it a more Classic look.

Looking good Randy! Those MVVS 49's are a good looking engine. Some day if I ever get out of my slump maybe I'll find out how good they are. I've had one NIB for at least 10 yrs. now.

I played around with an SE MVS .49 on a 77 ounce Score ARF for awhile. Pulled it around with ease. Don't let the size fool you, MVVS' are strong motors, they have the power (and weight) of a ST-60. They should work well in a Legacy, especially the RE on a pipe (which Randy can provide).

Just wondering, I've got no experience with the MVVS'. If their .49 is as strong as an ST.60 that's quite a statement.

I have no experience with the MVVS other than owning one I bought new about 10 years ago like Bill did. Its reported to be a real power maker and it is beautifully made. I am chancing it here because I want to find out for real. I've been flying a Gladiator 45 (720 Sq In) at 65 oz on a Stalker .51 and its got plenty of power, the Stalker is old school baffled piston. The MVVS is Schnerle. I will not be running a pipe, but will use a long Stalker .61 muffler. Fuel will be Uniflow/suction unless I find that inadequate. I expect this to be a successful combination but the proof of the puddin is in the eatin!! The Legacy is a bit smaller in area then the Gladiator though the airfoil is a bit thicker.

I don't know what the diff is from the Snorer except MVVS has been around many years and well proven. Snorer I think is a relatively late arrival but I really don't know. The picture doesn't look like the MVVS other then crankcase similarities.

Several years ago there was a full reveiw on the MVVS 49 in Stunt News. I don't remember which issue but the report was very favorable. Whoever wrote it claimed the power was indeed just like the ST 60 but lighter. When I got a chance to buy one for a very good price I jumped on it. Mine is the green head version like the one in the review.
