Title: Bandsaws (THANKS FOR THE HELP - I BOUGHT ONE)
Post by: Mike Griffin on February 16, 2013, 12:55:39 PM
Are any of you familiar with the Rikon 10"  10-305 bandsaw.  How is the quality and cutting power?

Thanks

Mike

I bought the Rikon 10" after getting some feedback who really knows bandsaws.  It is supposed to be a high quality saw for a reasonable price.  I paid $265.00 for mine.  Thanks again for everyones input.

Hi Mike,
I am not familiar with this brand, but I bought a Ryobi 9 inch band saw from Lowe's several years ago and it does everything I need.

 Good luck with your search.

I also have a Ryobi. I've had it for over 10 years, and just recently had to do a bit of adjustment on the blade guides for the first time. I'm very happy with it.

OK.. Thanks Guys.. I have a Ryobi Scroll Saw and it has worked great.  The Rikon is $269.00 and I think the Ryobi is about half that....Will have some thinking to do on this one...

Hi Mike,

Good topic, I am interested in a bandsaw, too. I noticed that the Rikon looks an awful lot like the Sears/Craftsman 10" bandsaw. I wonder what modifications were made so that the Sears version could be $50 cheaper.

I like the idea of ball-bearing blade guides on the 10" bandsaw but wonder if it is worth the extra cost. The 9" bandsaw looks like it has graphite blocks to guide the blade. Plus, the 10" saw includes the rip fence.

I have a 9" Ryobi I bought to replace a 9" Delta that was a total disappointment. The Ryobi is a great saw BUT, I have not been able to buy a blade for it. I went to a couple Home Depots (one at which I purchased the saw) and was told Ryobi had removed all their blades from the racks last June and they don't know when they will bring them back!  Thanks allot guys.

Sorry, I am not familiar with the Rikon

Hi Randy,

You can probably find nice quality replacement blades that are not Ryobi brand. I think I read something positive about Vermont American, and Olsen, maybe someone has a suggestion for that? Might get some good advice at a woodworking shop.

I found band saw blades for my 9" Ryobi at sales@tool barn.com.  Just under $9.00 each for 1/4 wide x .014 x6t which is the size of the original blade.

My Ryobi is supposed to use 59 1/4" blades. I bought 59 1/2" Bosch brand blades at Lowe's and they work fine.

Thanks guys, for some reason I've come up dry around here. I prefer the Vermont American blades but they only carry a 93 1/2" blade for some unknown saw here. I'm going to have to look online.

Shortest blade listed on the Vermont American site is 70"!

Ah Olson lists them, $10.99. I have one other local place to try, then its online I guess and pay the freight.
