Guy's when you mail order balsa where do you get yours? Are you satisified with your order, are the prices fair, do they ship in a reasonable amount of time, can you get "specialty cuts and lengths", method pf payment is there a minimum order and any other info will be helpful.

Go with National Balsa. Order "light", and you get really fine stuff!

I think Sig has the best wood. Here is 4 planes worth.

Agree with Doug. We recently placed a big order with Sig and were
well satisfied with all the wood they sent us. They don't sell Contest
Balsa in 48" lengths anymore, so I asked them to select the lightest
possible 1/8 x 4 x 48" wood for the fuselage sides. They did a great job.

I have ordered and gotten balsa and other woods from all the suppliers. Always good service and never had a peice I couldn't use some where in the construction of a plane.

I had a recent order from Lonestar that came very quickly and the wood was the best I've ever had...even for them.

They've been associated with CL in a big way always, and understand the needs of CL stunt fliers better than the rest.

They're ALL good suppliers, but the absolute best crop of balsa I ever received was from Lone Star.

Since Muncie model and hobby went out of business, we have a new hobby store uptown, Toy's Forever Model and Hobby's. Branden the owner has at my request ordered contest balsa from Sig and every order has been great and he orders it on Tuesday and gets it on Friday. Like Steve said they don't cut 48" anymore. I have always been satisfied with Sig. Why change from a good thing.

Sure glad to hear Randy C's comments on the reborn Lone Star Balsa!

I haven't needed to mail-order balsa since before Riley's Lubbock store burned down. It is great to know that at least one of the dependables is still among us.

With prices, safety- and air-quality-regulations, much that we used to take for granted is either gone completely, or way much more money, or not up to the general standards we were used to.

In some instances, the "good old days" WERE as good as we remember. BUT, as long as we are still around to remember, we should keep on keepin' on...

Lonestar still has a lot of contest balsa in stock. The stuff I saw less than 3 months ago was really nice.

I've made an order onlinefrom LoneStar and had excellent results. Had the wood within a day or so and picked up another order when I was in the area.

I get my wood locally, so thats really no help to the USA guys - however I have in the past used Lonestar and the wood was pretty good.

For me, on line ordering is the only way to go, no matter who the manufacturer/supplier is.

I prefer to order online because the order form is like a contract that you both get and can refer to if there are any discrepancies when you get your order. T.J.

Good balsa is now extremely hard to find here in NZ since Airsail shut up shop. They used to mill their own and would select out the contest grade stock for us.

A very few places stock small amounts of Australian balsa, but none are near me. My sister owns a hobby shop and they stock Revell balsa, which is only good for flooring. They're more interested in board games than model building. I might have to look into an order of contest grade wood from Australia for the next stunter.

Before the fire at Lone Star, they were my source. After the fire National became my supplier. I need to try Lone Star again, but the wood I have gotten from National has been great.

No longer buy balsa from Sig because of the price difference on a good size order. Sig has good wood, and I did get some in the past. It's just once you get on a fixed income, cost matters.
