Balloon Bust at Brodak
« on: May 25, 2023, 10:29:24 AM »

Brodak Balloon Bust rules do not show how the field is laid out. Is there a barrier to climb and dive over as per AMA Dive Bombing and Strafing?

I assume complete AMA Rules unless stated otherwise.   With the barrier poll, it's a lot harder than it looks.

I'm bringing a 'beater' with the assumption it will be residing in a Brodak trash barrel at the end of the meet.

I read the posted rules on the Brodak website and looked at the previous thread. I didn't see anything that said it had to be a combustion engine. Are combustion entries just the unwritten rule or is an electric setup authorized?

ok guys, let me try an answer a few of your questions, as i am the Event Director for the event at brodaks... 1) electrics are fine as long as you are flying on 60 ft lines +/- 1ft... 2) there is a twelve ft pole that you fly over then dive for the balloons, the balloons are on 3ft thn dowel rods... 3) you must fly upright and counterclockwise at all times no higher then 25ft ( no wingovers, loops, or inverted flight and NO throttle controls) 3) airplane must takeoff the ground .... 4) the 1st balloon is 15ft from the pole, 2nd 10ft from the first, 3rd 10ft from the 2nd, 4th 10ft from the 3rd and 5th 10ft from the 4th, the point for the balloons are 10,8,6,4,2 ...... 5) you take of and fly 7 level laps and you will be timed for your speed... 6) you get 5 attempts to attack the balloons, you do not have to do all 5 in a row, you raise your hand and the next time around will be an attempt. you also do not have to take all 5 attempt.... 7) if you crash you get a zero for the flight, given that most guys are flying rough airplanes a bad landing is not a crash..your score is your speed times your balloon points...i hope this clears up some of your questions...

Thanks Bernard, that was was very helpful. One question; does, "60' lines +/- 1ft" mean eyelet to eyelet?

In this and most events that spell out a specific line length, it is from the centerline of the airplane to the centerline of the handle. I wouldn't expect it to be any different at Brodaks.
