We plan on coming down friday. Since it has been to hot to fly all summer, I am going to bring an ignition plane. I won't fly very well but I will be loud.  LL~  Well! if I can get it to run. Wind was up today, so I am hoping it will be down tomorrow and I can get a little flying in.

Gary; We are staying at the Microtell I think. Thanks for asking as I had forgotten to call. They are about 7 miles from the field. The number is 918-234-9100.

I would like to come this year as it has been 10 years since I last was there. But I have a VA drs. appointment tomorrow in Dallas and it is at least 6 hours from there. At my age and being retired I am not just going to get in a rush to do much anymore. If this cancer does not kill me before next year perhaps I can come then. I am disappointed not to get to come fly with you all.

My blessings on you all for good weather and safety.........................................................Jerry

Strangely, Boise State is playing Tulsa Saturday. So at least I'll be watching Tulsa even if I'm not there.

Friday Report

I went out to Reeves Field around 11 am and there was a steady stream of people showing up. Lloyd Gregory drove in from Maryland. From Kansas we had Jim and Lova Kraft, Jim Lee, Lew Woolard and Bob Brookins. From Texas, Linda and Dale Gleason along with Richard Oliver, who had read of the Mother of all Raffles and wanted to see it. Tom Farmer also came up from Texas  to fly.

Many airplanes got flown. One electric airplane, (whose owner will remain nameless) Tried to take off with the engine running backwards! Fortunately, Joseph Patterson, (from Louisiana) was launching, and DIDN'T release the airplane when the signal was given. So all ended well. Joseph Patterson drove all the way from Louisiana to Tulsa just to help Judge at our contest. Thanks, Joseph! We really appreciate it!

There will be three Ignition airplanes flying tomorrow in OTS. Jim Kraft, Jim Lee, and Joe Gilbert will be flying their barn door  stunters.

The weather should be great tomorrow and Sunday. I'll try to get something written on here about both days.

I didn't bring any paperwork home with me, so I can't give you all of today's results. Jim Lee won the spirit of '52 for his Atwood Ignition powered Go-Devil, and Lew Woolard won the spirit of '64 with his Smoothy. We did have 3 sparkers fly in OTS, and Joe Gilbert won. Gary Mondry won Classic/79, and Richard Oliver won Profile stunt. Doug Patterson and Marvin Denny both won the Charles Ash Sportsmanship award. They both drove to Tulsa to Judge and help out any way they could.

Charles Ash was a legend at the Dallas club for enthusiasm and helping out. Sadly, he died around 15 years ago from a massive heart attack. He was a great inspiration to the Gluedobbers Controline Club when we were just getting started again back in the late 1980's..

That doesn't rhyme at all, Howard, and doesn't even mention the JCT once. What up with that?  LL~ Steve

Yep, another great weekend over too quick. Am sure De will post results and Elwyn will post a few more photos. Not the turnout we normally get but seems like that is the trend. I had a ball and De did a great job as CD.

So this f'tball game is why you couldn't go flying on Saturday? The weather was quite a lot better than today, huh? :o Steve

Dina and I had a great time! Kudo's to the Gluedobbers! It was my first Tulsa contest since 2000 and the first time at the new field, and it is just gorgeous! Good times, new friends, old friends...it doesn't get much better. Oh...and we did fly some stunt.  The chow was super, and I thought the weather was great!

This was my last contest for the year, and it was really great. The GlueDobbers know how to have a contest. Thanks to all the hard work in running everything. Did I mention the food was superb! The neat thing is all of the wonderfull people that show up at these contests. That makes it all the more fun. For me it is getting more like a family reunion than a contest, except we all get to do our thing and fly our stunt planes. It don't get no better.

There's some interesting things on Elwynn's #1903 to note.  Jim Lee's "Sunflyer" debuted at the Lubbock, Texas Nats.  Lessee now, that was in 1994, and it was really windy....so much so that they thought "Sunflyer's" wing may have been bending a little under the strain. Seventeen years later we can see that certainly wasn't the case....or if it was, so what? :)

It was pretty windy in Tulsa, as evidenced by that windsock, but missing from the picture is the stately sixty foot tall elm tree directly upwind which made for some whifferdills and didos not seen too often in control line circles. (and no one crashed!)

Finally, the DMAA Quilt is a show-stopper. This quilt has some other features other than Stunt here and there, like Racing and Carrier, and there are numerous photographs from different contests across this great land of ours (to quote Doc Holliday), but it is mostly fabricated of "T-Shirt" logos from many VSCs and contests, even the Tucson, Arizonia. This was the brainchild of Linda Leutey, Jerry's better half, and was quilted by her. Linda Bob has shown it at all the contests she has attended this year. The different pieces came from many different donors.

It will be raffled off at our "Gleason FishFly" October 29, proceeds for DMAA flying site maintenance.....should anyone be interested, send a PM.

Yep, when the wind's out of the north that middle circle can get interesting. Guessing that's why De put the experts on that circle. We advanced guys had the best circle with a north wind but when the wind is from the south the east circle catches heck from the neighbors shop building. Weather is saying we were flying in 23 MPH gusts and of course today it's dead calm.

Just hope everyone had a good time and happy to say no major crashes.

We've been attending Tulsa since the Preacher Bob days. Out by the River, at Jerry Neafus' place and now at
Pat and Bob Reeve's,  ya' just can't hide from us! :)   By "us", I mean everybody. The facilities are fantastic, but again, it's the Oakies putting out the welcome mat.....it's really appreciated,

Big Thank You GlueDobbers!

Just like golf courses, different flying fields pose different challenges, like the elevated railroad bed in Dallas. Fifteen years ago, it was just a gravel bed and one could see the trains going by. Now, trees have grown twenty feet above the tracks so you only hear the trains go by. Just be careful when the wind is from the East! :)
