Title: Bad days at the office (field) pic.
Post by: Allen Goff on August 19, 2011, 04:58:28 PM
Bad day at the field this week. Thursday at the L-pad at AMA my number one ship I've been flying for 6+ years gave me a scare, while doing the square eight something snapped and the handle went to a 45 degree at level flight. I brought it home and found that the bell crank platform had come lose. So I took my #2 ship off the wall and went out today. While preforming a wingover the engine quite just before the top, I couldn't run fast enough. Two planes in two days. I haven't put one in the ground in some 10 or 12 years. I was going to go to a contest this weekend, not now. The sliver lining behind this dark cloud is, three people in the last four hours has called me up and offered a plane for me to finish out the year. Not their junk, but their gooooood stuff. I like this hobby and the people in it. Thanks guys for the offers. One ugly picture no one likes to see is attached.

Blessing
Allen

Seems I go through wrecks in spurts. Hadn't crashed a plane in 10 years then 2 in a couple of months (both equipment failure). Then no wrecks in another 5 years and same thing. It's like the yips in golf. Your fine and doing well then all of a sudden, it jumps up and bites you.

Sorry to hear the bad news.  But, think it could have waited until you were doing an official.   Modellers are great all over wanting to lend their good planes for a person to fly.   Myself I don't keep track of how many I have crashed.   Better luck next time and thank the good Lord for trying to tell you something. H^^

I have found that everything works great during practice on my home field. If it is going to mess up it will be at a contest. At least that is the way it is in the Intermediate class. Perhaps our equipment just older and not the precision stuff that others fly with. If it has been over 10 years since you've last stuck one then you were probably way over due. But sympathies go out to you anyway.

Allen,
Sorry for your troubles. About all you can do is grin and bear it. Just believe the next one you will build will be even better.

That sucks.  '' '' ''

I feel your pain.

Glad to see some of your flying buds are stepping up to get you through the season.

Bummer.  Do I need to return what I bought this week?

That really sucks!!  ''  It does look like it could be fixed though, it's just a matter of how much work you would want to put into it.

The outboard wing (at minimum) always flies off good stunt ships when crashed..

That's repairable, however. see Windy.

Anyway, I'm also feeling pain when I see an obviously gorgeous stunt ship busted.

Sorry about it.

Sorry for the mishap, Allen!  But ain't it great how others are willing to help?

Sounds like the #1 plane might be easiest to fix, just get the BC mount squared away.
