Bad Caster Oil

When I got my year old bottle of Sig Caster Oil out Sunday to add to the Morgan fuel I use I saw what looked like a fine white flocculant mass sitting on the bottom of the plastic bottle.  Needless to say I didn't use the Caster.  Has anyone else had this problem?  Does anyone have a way to filter Caster Oil?

That is the Carnauba wax settling out of the oil. Filter it and it will be fine.

Would warming the caster homogenize the carnauba back into a state of suspension? Just wondering as I would think to give that a try as to not loose or filter out the carnauba and any of the essential qualities that it may provide.

     Hi Richard:

      Many years ago, I got a "deal" on some fuel at a very reduced price.  This fuel had castor oil in it that had turned "rancid" and this had caused many small white flecks in the fuel.  I filtered the flecks out and everything was good.  Perhaps your oil has gone rancid.

      Perhaps you can also filter the oil to remove the solid material that has formed.

This sounds like what's called flocculation.  It's a known phenomenon with castor, and is common when it's stored in cold conditions.  I've seen it a couple of times with some cans of Castrol M an old motorcycling buddy gave me - I keep them in an unheated garage.  The cure is simply to move the castor into a warm room and leave it for a couple of days, whereupon the white flecks should disappear.  No need to filter.

I remember the white flecks in the K&B 100 after it would sit for a while.    We would just shake the can real good and the fuel was ready to go.

Clarence Lee of RCM fame said to put either castor or fuel in the sun to warm the flakes up enough to merge back into the mix. It does seem to work.

  that was the new K&B speed fuel ,  it had  come on the market just before the KOI .. temp the first morning was about 40 deg and everyone had this white stuff floating around in their fuel ,finally someone figured out that putting it in ths engine department ,on the engine for a while would make it go away

It's funny that everyone posting doesn't read the previous post and keeps repeating the same info. 

WARM THE OIL! Don't filter it.

Luckily I'm from an era where I actually never had to ingest the stuff by parental force.

Lucky you!  It used to be before a colon X-Ray you had to take four ounces of caster to empty your colon for the barium goo.  Look at the guys in the movie THE RIGHT STUFF, they got it right.
