Title: Back to Fundamentals!!!
Post by: proparc on April 14, 2011, 04:45:32 PM
Alright guys, were going to get back to what this forum is all about. This is the last flight of 2010 F2B World Champion-Richard Kornmeir, flying an ST 60 powered Igor Burger designed Max.
I want you guys to give me a thorough as possible play by play analysis, of his flight as you possibly can. Debating BOM is easy, stuff like this is hard. I will refrain from my opinions until we have a fair amount of posts, so as not to influence the opinions.

I would suggest you turn off the volume so you can better concentrate on his flight.

After viewing the flight three times scrutinizing every corner, loop, and intersection, I have concluded that he can beat the pants off the likes of me.

Notice how easy he makes it look?  All of the really good fliers I have watched just look like they are waving a magic wand.  No strange body motions or odd jerking or hand waving.  Just grace in motion.  I don't do it that way, myself.

That's some pretty good analysis. LL~

It's a good flight. Some very minor errors, but really smooth with generally good intersections and shapes. And yes, he'd certainly beat me.

Now we know why he is the World Champion.    Very crisp corners and is still smooth.  H^^

Perfect bottoms! You can cheat the judges elsewhere in the pattern (as he did in the overhead eights) but NEVER with the BOTTOMS.

IMHO.
Regards,
Claudio.

I don't have your eye for the fine details. What did he do there?

I agree.. I see the Vertical-8 went fat or oval like horizontally on the bottom one, and the Overhead-8 was off to the down wind side.  overall was very good! with consistent bottoms, and excellent corners.   loves his ST.60's run too..  :)

The first loop of both eights are not tangent to 45º. They are noticeable lower (at least as I can see from this video...)

For those who haven't seen them yet, here you have ALL the fly-off flights. A joy to behold...:

(I want to go to the field and FLY RIGHT NOW...and I want it sooo badly...)

I havrnt looked at this. but the minute i saw 60 size I got lost. but you're right IMHO. the exits and corners are it. as for the gigantic loops and jumping around you have Ed RIP, to thank for that. I always thought " Old Smoothie" was the most graceful. Ed jumped arond like a naggot in a hot skillet, or a native american doing a "rain dance",  manuevers so huge he needed 2 circles and bounced that  inverted wing-over about 15 feet. enough baggin ED hes not here to to laugh about it, like he did. He was a wonderful guy he really was, and real good natured. Besides he may  start jumpin up and down on the clouds and make it rain on us!. there i go wandering again  n~  L8r yall :-* jim

What I saw was a first rate modeler walk out to his handle, fly a very nice stunt pattern, land his model pretty much in the same location as he took off from and wait for his pitman to pick up his plane.

Besidedes guys,  the camera was not in the same location as the judges.   H^^

True that the camera is not at the same point as the judges Doc, but if the camera is not moved during a particular maneuver, the tops, bottoms, sides, and intersections can be easily observed for tracking and consistancy.  such as walking the loops from left to right  or visa-versa (not tracking). With the camera off from directly across the circle from the maneuver  one cannot "accurately"  get a good view of the shape, so he would have to use good judgement as a judge would if the flier had did the maneuver slightly left or right from directly across from the judges.
Watch some of the fliers again and place your cursor on the point of the first verticle point of the horizontal  eight and leave it there and see if the plane hits that point on the second, third, fourth and fifth passes of that point.
Same type of checking can be used on the loops  at the sides and top.   Intresting little check to use.  Too bad that the judges can't be afforded the time to do that.  I think they do a beautiful job under very trying conditions.  I for one do NOT envy them in doing their job.

It looked to me like the inverted half-lap of the RWO was higher than the upright half-lap by a couple of feet, but maybe the camera was on a short tripod. The OH8 was pretty typical...big insides, small outsides. Flying stance/style is very straight armed. I'd guess that he flies with a raked ("relaxed grip")handle, but would like to know for sure.  It looks rather slow and precise...gotta like that. I haven't watched it with the sound yet.  I'll go see what sound does to the impression, for better or worse. Good to see Germany win one, from a total of something like 6 serious F2B fliers.  H^^ Steve

It'd be nice to be able to download those and watch them back without the flash load time....
