Title: Back in the day
Post by: john e. holliday on January 22, 2012, 07:27:23 AM
I am going to post this here and if the Administration sees fit it can be moved.  It's from "Wheels a Day".  I got wrong date when I saved picture, it is really 1940 Seattle  at Aurora & Denny.  Before control line and free flight was king.   Bet it don't look like that now. H^^

Doc:

I guess we were just as dependent upon gasoline in those days also. I count six gasoline stations on that one corner.

We have the US Department of energy now with a $27 BILLION dollar budget for 2012. They were going to cut our need for foreign oil. Can you think of any cost saving measure or new and cheap energy source they have come up with? Not fussing just laughing at the waste in Washington.

Curtis,

There's no waste.

All that money winds up in someon's pocket, just not ours.

Hey Doc what's this 'back in the deay" thingy.  I never heard this phrase until recently. Now it's all over the place! "Sure pulls your bobber down, don't it?"

I guess I must be showing  my age.  I remember a lot of old timers using that phrase, even as a kid many years ago. Did zoom in on the interscection from the satelite view and it is very congested.  Well I tried to copy picture so I could post it and it keeps disappearing. H^^

Relative to the picture Randy posted, I usta live on top of Queen Ann hill, which is on the upper left of the pic. Looking at the picture Doc posted, it's not really clear to me which street is Aurora and which is Denny, but I think it's a much different viewpoint, maybe 180 out. The spacing between cars had to be much greater in 1940, because the brakes sucked, as did the tires.  y1 Steve

I like this one - 29 seconds in, ROG straight into the crowd. I don't see how they expected that to work.
