B-29 Fifi on Tour

The only flying B-29, Fifi, is on a western tour beginning May 16th in Prescott, AZ. Many stops in California, Seattle area, Colorado, and New Mexico. Link below will get you all the information and schedule. You probably should not miss this if it is in your neighborhood.

 My wife and I had the pleasure af seeing Fifi at Chanault A F B in Lake Charles, La. in June of '13, also got to meet a man that was a crew chief on one on the island of Tinian (sp?), didn't get his name, but did THANK him for his service to the U S A ...

  Also had an Uncle serve with the U S M C on Tinian in WW 2 also.

 We owe our Veterans a Huge  debt of gratitude...

I rebuilt two of the Command Radios for that 29. They are not used in flight ,only for show.

I once asked Ol' Dad if he ever flew a B-29. He said he did, and it took every bit of strength a person could muster to do a simple turn. He was a pretty big guy for a 1912 model (5'11"). That's why the B-50 had hydraulic controls.  Steve

I guess most of those old bombers were not meant for aerobatics.    As long as they got the load there and delivered.   It was up to the crew to get the big plane back.   I think the B-17 was the best even though a lot of them went down before dropping their load.

Most of the current flying WWII bombers have flown into Moffett from time to time (usually for the Watsonville Air Show and a few weeks before - like today...). It's quite a sight to see close up, but the thing that surprised me the most was how small they look out on the Moffett runway. The B-17 and B-24, in particular, look like a Piper Cub at the San Jose Airport. But even FiFi looked like a model.

Seeing FiFi is great.  Watching FiFi fly is awesome.  Getting to ride FiFi is phenomenal!  Pics are of me in the tail gunner section and of it's shadow on the Mississippi River.
