Title: Axle ends
Post by: Matt Neumann on May 05, 2025, 03:11:00 PM
I saw where Amazon has some wheel collars in bulk and was thinking of getting some of those.  However I did not see the ones that look like acorn nuts but are held on with a set screw.  I know Brodak sells sets but I was looking for something in bulk.  What exactly are the acorn nut versions called so I can see if I can find those in bulk?  I am looking for 1/16", 3/32" and 1/8" wire.

Look up "dome nuts" as well Matt.   Imperial sizes seem to be quite expensive compared with metric. Also m3 seemed to be the smallest on ebay.

I don't think Dubro makes a closed end wheel collar, do they?? i don't see anything on their website. I don't think Great Planes did either in their hardware line. Fox might have at one time and I think I have some of those.  I haven't seen those in a package since Perfect put them out, years ago, and maybe some other small companies did also. I think I have a stash of a few packages of the Perfect for a special project some day. If you find any current production examples of these, let us all know!
    Type at you later,

Try mcmaster.com- search "cap nuts". Drilling and tapping will be required to make them into wheel collars.

Sounds like a good 3D printer project.  Print a cap cover around a wheel collars.
