Aw Dangit!
« on: May 28, 2011, 04:26:40 PM »
I misremembered the schedule for the NW regionals, so instead of heading out to Eugene early this morning with my #2 plane, I got my #1 plane thrashed together in time to get to Eugene by dinner time.  But the beginner flying started two hours ago, and I'm three hours away!!!  Shucks.  Shoot.  Etc.

Oh well.

Maybe Puyallup.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

But Advanced and Expert will fly tomorrow.  You still have time!  Enter Adv.  You might not win, but you can fly and be part of the fun!

Yep Tim, I say go ahead and enter Advanced- tell the judges before your flight which manuevers you will be leaving out and fly the Beginner pattern + any other maneuvers you feel good performing. You can have a list in your free hand so you don't forget anything- but write BIG- you only want to take a moment to confirm your next stunt, and get ready.

The stress level will be down, and you still get experience flying in competition for the judges. You get to see how well your current level of flying scores on a score card, and odds are if someone else has equipment issues ( or worse crashes) you will be above last place!

You can also gets some flights in on the practice circle, and there are always people willing to provide feedback / advice.

I would have been flying essentially the beginner's pattern with a reverse wingover instead of a single forward one, and I would have been lucky to remember all the maneuvers.

I should have probably gone, but I was already feeling pretty unenthusiastic about pitching a tent on the soggy ground and trying to sleep, or getting up at 5:00 in the morning and then trying to fly.
