Well I have been waiting for someone who writes better than I ,Warren!!!to put in a report.The Dalby Nat's almost didn;t happen ,severe flooding over most of the state caused a lot of confusion however Dalby although cut off at times never went under and the Nats went on,any one who wanted to get here could get through altho I did hear of people turning back on advise of authorities hundreds of miles away.Those that did get here had a great time ,of the 8 in expert we had 2 to judge advanced and 3 from advanced to judge expert.Four rounds were flown Friday to make up for the loss of Thursday, The decision was made to run another 4 on Sunday and get the comp finished.All went well except for a front late in the day an procedings were halted for an hour for the front to pass. Results showed four of the top five were previous winners.Results 1st Joe Parisi 3529 Hot Pursuit pa 75 pipe

The flooding was no-ones fault. It was just one of those things that Nature throws at us - certainly not any reflection of anyone in QLD - from all reports it went as good as could be expected under the conditions. - Contrats to Joe.

By the way - I've spent 35 years in the NSW Police - (25 years in NSW Police Rescue Squad) and have also the credential of being a "National Search and Rescue Adviser" for past 8 years - fairly sure I have the experience to say what is right or wrong in this kind of situation... Rescuers do not ever want people to enter a 'danger zone' - (and this is what it is) for fear that on top of rescuing the normal residents of the area they may be required to come to the aid of many other visitors who should not have been there. To top off our decision, we were supplied with photos of friends who had made it into the town on the morning of the 27th, they had to be rescued from their accommodation by boat which is clearly shown in the photo. Also another photo was supplied to us of the Control Line flying field where the competition I was entered into was to be conducted, the field was nearly under water, huge puddles could clearly be seen and no vehicles (apart from large 4WD vehicles) could access the field which had not been mown and would at some time need to be to allow the competitions to run. As wet as they were I would be extremelly doubtful as to when the 'mowing' could occur.

I was intending on competing in 4 events, 2 x freeflight and 2 x control line.. unfortunately the weather has intervened and as a result of the lack of information provided about the fields, the information supplied to the general community via media from the Police and relevant Emergency services, the 'unknown' factor concerning our accommodation, as well as speaking with people with Emergency Management experience who were already stranded within Dalby who were telling us 'not to come' (no food, fields flooded, accommodation flooded) we made the decision not to continue to get into Dalby. As mentioned by Suzanne, we had already travelled over 900 kms to Moonie to be told we couldn't enter Dalby via that direction, so attempted to enter vi Toowoomba but were cut off after another 200kms at Merrmillen? (Might have name of town incorrect) - no accommodation there so decided to go back to Moonie in the hope that the water may have receded by the next day. Staying in a mosquito infested unit wasn't great fun, the next morning the water hadn't receded, Toowoomba was still cut off so we went back to Goondiwindi...made more inquiries with the town information centre and spoke to people who were already in Dalby (again) - we were sent photos of the Control line flying site which hadn't been mown and the entry to which was still under water by half a metre.. there were large puddles of unknown depth over the field.

I am extremely disappointed not to be there at the Nats. It's something that I look forward to each year, building models and practising for the 4 events which I enter. We tried to get there and were forced by all the above circumstances to turn around. I think we made the correct decision. It hasn't been a cheap exercise either, accommodation and fuel costs have still been incurred. For all those that have arrived, I wish you all the best and enjoy the events that are conducted.

Nats communication. It's been great, in fact, better than I expected! The guys in Dalby have been working real hard to make this event happen for quite some time. They deserve our praise & support for all their effort. Yes, the weather has made life difficult but the organisers are doing everything possible to make it all happen.

Congratulations to Joe Parisi! I watched him fly a few flights in Gyula this summer and thought he was flying extremely well and sort of overlooked by the judges (of course, there were a LOT of very good fliers putting up good stuff...but nonetheless, Joe looked sharp as a tack!)

Joe sent me this photo when he first finished it.
Along with these details :

Attached is a photo of my new model, finished a few weeks ago.

Based on the Trivial Pursuit and powered by the PA75 with pipe.

Weighs 62 oz and is full takeapart like last year's model.

Combination of model & engine works very well.

I do beleive Joe will be makign the trip to Muncie to join us in 2011. Possibly with a new model, possibly with the hot pursuit. I dont like talking on anyone's behalf, but the conversations Ive had with him indicate that.

For those counting this was Joe's 6th Nats win.

Any chance you'll let me have a fly of your SV-11?? Oh, didn't think so...I'm still embarassed by that....
As it happens, yesterday I picked up an ARC kit of the SV-11 from Russell Bond, who was one of the entrants that couldn't get through the floods, and he regaled us with stories about the trials and tribulations of trying to get there.

Probably don't need to have THAT conversation here..

It simply undermines the efforts of those who did try to put on a great event & under Values those who places 1 - 2 - 3.

I think its pretty clear that some had problems getting in and out - others did'nt. It was declared a Natural disaster area due to flooding. Its not like the field wasn't mown!

It almost comes across as if somehow its Noels fault.. - Now unless he forgot to turn off the tap - I cant see the point in your previous comments. It was a QLD Event , Noels stomping ground, no need for that line of dialogue..

Russell is a top guy.. Hope your SV-11 is a killer machine.

Noel did a great job as CD. Thanks for stepping up to the plate, and getting around to writing up a report. Does anyone have any pictures? I was too busy practicing to take any.

I think you'll find that most of the natural disasters were actually caused by our lack of a BOM rule, not Noel leaving the tap on

Shame that Joe's plane isn't for sale...

Settle down PJ, I don't know how you managed to read anything in what I said as being against Noel. We were flying buddies before you were born but it's been over 30 years since I left Qld. If you must know the point of my previous comment, I'd just won the Qld champs, Noel asked me if I'd like to fly his plane, I did and promptly crashed it. Total embarassment!

Thanks everyone for your support,I thought I was past getting involved in running event's,didn't even plan on going the month before,I don't mind helping out when I get so much great cooperation.I take it PJ took Brian's comment the wrong way,even tho its been 30 + years since we have been on the same field we do communicate occasionally and have a quirky sense of irreverence to each other I think I stated earlier I was disappointed FOR the people that missed out,I have spoken with Russell Bond on the phone and he is fine even tho he is out of pocket .The biggest problem is the rain continues and more towns are going under and even Brisbane has areas under risk, That makes it over 1,000,000 People affected.Here goes the humor !!! I don't have enough balsa for an Ark!!!!!!!But I am growing web feet. Thanks again everyone. Noel.

That is bad news for you lads down under. Is this a yearly thing or is it like here in KANSAS USA? We have a couple of towns not on the map any more because of what they call the 100 year rain. Nothing like driving to a model airplane NATS with water up to the edge of the road on both sides. So I hope you guys/gals dry out soon.

John ,thanks for your concern,We normally have Cyclones this time of year but this is just rain, a 100 year event nothing like this in living history, so we just have to wait it out and hope for the best.12 lives lost so far ,mainly from people being silly. Noel.

Seems like once they switch to the PA, they become instant stars, with all the entourage and women chasing them and limousines etc. I sincerely hope Joe will be able to handle all the fame, and not end up like the cats on "Behind the Music".

Photo is not of the field but of an effected area in QLD below shows the flood meter.
Thats METERS by the way ( 26 feet.. )

Not to laugh about it however but there IS a reason they build flood depth guages to 9 + meters...

Other than a stint with Saito's Joe has been running PA for quite a few years QUITE a FEW... The only reason I know that is becasue everytime I see him there are all the entourage and women chasing him and limousines !!

Hi from the "bit drier south" Noel. Heard in the morning news that there was around 300 mm of rain in 24 hrs in southern QLD and now the evening news has Toowoomba and Dalby in crisis as vehicles are being washed through the streets and three houses washed away as well. We are all thinking of everyone up there.

Living in a flood area makes us aware of the problems. The biggest recorded flood here since European settlement in the Hawkesbury at Windsor was 63 feet. The biggest one I have seen was in 1961 at 49ft 6ins. That was big enough!!

Did miss the socialising at the Nats this year but with the initial flooding I wouldn't have got into the area due to other commitments immediately after Christmas.

All the best to those who make the F2B team for 2012. Finally the cost of competing for a position should be much less due to a one off team trial rather than past qualifying which required all that travelling! See you all at the trials in June.

Sorry guys it took me a while to get here... Went to Surfers and Brisbane for 3 days before returning home from the Nats, only to have my 14 year old run away from home after an argument with her mother! We found her today at one of her friends place after a sleepless night looking for her.

Nice report Noel... you did good and your SV11 flies really well. Read my full report in ACLN next month. In the meantime, here's some pictures. Sorry James didnt get any pics of yours or Marks models...

Warren, glad you found your daughter. Many years ago my oldest ran away form home. Was told by the wife that she was told the daughter was okay. Guess I could have been on the child abuse pages, but I can't stand it when a child argues with their Mother and won't do her chores. Turned her across my knee and gve her a good spanking. Sh did return home eventually, but was still a problem child when you are told you can't spank your own kids. She even flew planes with me and I helped her learn to drive. Anyway, thanks for the pics. It is alway great to put faces with names or is it names with faces.

The Town , Dalby , went under again this week .
A few hundred houses and some buisneses.
Creek (river) is in C.B.D.
Fish and chip shop flooded , again.
Free beer in Pub (and I left Sunday ! ) with water at Knee Hight.Picture in Qld paper.
And the mall whos carpark drains to the river,with no stop cocks flooded four times so far.
Were 13 pumps going Sunday there alone.12 little Honda ones and a larger one.
Regulations prevent blocking the drains.From backflow.

A river burst in the next town down, Towooba.

Unfortunately some kids were washed away in the tsunami , R.I.P. .

Weathers abated for the meantime.Queenslands facing biggest clean up ever .

Something to be said for leaving belts oof Forest through faming areas. Abates water flows .
