AMA Membership
« on: January 12, 2023, 07:09:50 AM »
Just came across the following in my online AMA email. May be I should sign up the three latest grandkids all under 2 years, or contribute to Donald's latest fund drive either way it's money in the crapper.

[b]Your membership with the Academy of Model Aeronautics allows you to add members of your home at a reduced membership rate. You can take advantage of this by heading over to the enrollment page under "Renew" to add your extra family member.

This is how I got my first membership.  Dad signed me on with his membership.....58 years ago.  Nothing new under the sun.

But Dave if you remember you or your Dad had to pay for that membership.  I know as it cost me for JJ and the grand kids.  Also had to pay for Chrystal's membership in the one contest she entered.  The fine line says those that live in your home.  Ready lawyers? S?P D>K

Dave

I got a AMA membership for Sean as soon as he could walk and started to go to the flying fields with me. I think it cost me a dollar at that time and got it without the magazine. I thought it was well worth it to make sure he was insured in case of an accident, and it would sort of make him feel "included" when he saw he had his own AMA card. I think his membership has been pretty much uninterrupted since then, and I think he might have done the same with his daughter (my grand daughter) Clara when she started to go along.

Oh I know John but it was also at a reduced rate just as now.  A few years ago I got my first grandson his AMA license, good until his 19th birthday at a one-time reduced price (don't remember what it was).   I was fortunate also to be able to get his great grandfather's original AMA number for him........unfortunately he hasn't shown any interest in the hobby in years...may never fly again.  I have three more grand runts to go......

No.  That was Bryce-#3.  He and his cousin Zoey (#2) can both handle a half A pretty well for about half a flight.  I've built them each a new Sig Acromaster with a .15 for spring.......Liam will be a couple more years yet.  Dylan helped us with pouring the center pad if you'll remember .  He's into his pickup and tractors, guns shows, a girl friend., a real country kid.....his airplanes just hang on the wall.  If any of these kids take this stuff seriously I've gathered enough stuff to keep them flying for life just about.

Don't make that mistake.  Let them fly for the fun of it.  Most of my kids and grand kids can fly but just for the fun of flying.  No loops or inverted flying, just round and round.  That is how I break in or used to break in engines. D>K
