MoBest Plans
« on: August 20, 2012, 03:49:12 PM »
Hi Guys

I understand from talking to some folks who were close to Larry Cunningham, there were several versions of his MoBest drawn.  I want to build a MoBest for myself and I cannot find plans on PAMPA website anywhere.  If anyone has a set that they could make a copy for me or tell me where I can order a set I would very much appreciate it.   Either A digital copy or hard copy would work

Thank you

Mike

Check your latest Stunt News.  There is a listing of all plans available from PAMPA and the MoBest is listed.  $15.00, two sheets. H^^

Hey Ty.  I , along with some other people, are having trouble trying to dowload it.  I do not get the hard copy any more, just the download....I will try again.  Maybe they got it fixed/

Mike, I don't know if the plans were ever corrected or not but the root rib on the PAMPA plans is incorrect. I brought this to Larry's attention and he confirmed it.( I had laser cut ribs made from the plans by Action Ed, that's how I discovered it) I have the corrected root some where. I also have a foam cores for the MoBest (Crist R. cut it ) I made mine with R-2 as the root which shorted the span 4" I don't remember which root I had Crist use when he cut it, I'll have to check.

Larry was improving the Mo-Best design right up to the end.  I have the latest/last version and I have built 2 of them so far and I have a Mo-Beast started. Larry was well on with this design but just couldn't stop improving it.  I do have the DXF files of the last iteration of Mo-Best and also Mo-Beast.  I do plan to build a Mo-Beast and will have to solve the problems myself.  There were also other designs on the board that will not now be realised including the Stealth Stunter.

Just out of curiosity: do you have anything postable about the other "other designs"?
I built a Blue Pants as a kid. Wish I still had it. Might even learn to fly it.

Tomorrow I will be going up to Larry's house and collect his computer with all his files.
Any of the plans that have not been promised for publication will be made ready for use.
It will take a while to go through all his files, but once it's done, I'm sure that there will be a notice
on what's available.
I too built the MoBest - four of them.  My favorite profile.  If anyone has the plans that show
3/32 sheeting at 30 degrees opposite on the fuse, don't do it.  It does kill the twisting, but does nothing
for side to side movement.  I built my last Mo'best in 2007 with the fuse the Larry built using
1/64 ply over an open 1/2" (?) x 1/2" balsa sticks top and bottom.  This is the way to go.

That Stealth Stunter looks really sharpe.
The outline should be enough of a start for someone to finish the design.
I'm wondering about the slanted lines on the wing and stab if he was thinking about that for rib positions.
Any advantages (other than cosmetic) to having the ribs slanted inboard ?

Robertc: please let me know if there are any aditional files on the Stealth other than the .jpg pipemakermike posted above.

If you have the address  for the PAMPA products, just send a letter and an MO for the amount. No need to go online to order them.  Do you have any old issues? Or call CLC. they are in the vendors corner and handle the PAMPA products line.  H^^

I heard it from our District 11 Dictator that CLC/Jim Snelson is no longer the PAMPA vendor and somebody else has now got the job. You can also read this info on the newest issue of S/N, in the Annual Meeting Report. It was not stated who would be the new PAMPA vendor. Your District Dictator might be able to give you more info.  H^^ Steve

I picked up Larry's computer and his other things yesterday.  There are many, many thousand of files on his computer.  It will take
me a while to figure out his filing system that spans several hard drives.  There are several people that have copies of Larry's CAD files
that he was always working on.  Right now we have three on the "team" to get Larry's plans out.  It could end up with several more people,
so between all of us, things will start moving faster in the next few weeks.
The Stealth Stunter was just a concept from several years ago that wasn't taken very far except to draw it and talk about it.
