Ashford Avaition ? ? ? ? ?
« on: December 29, 2009, 01:26:26 PM »
I am a guy wanting to get back into CL stunt but don't have the time, tools, space anymore to build planes. The LHS gave me contact info for John Ashford, but I never heard of this person, so question.

Do any of you know him?  How is he to deal with? and what kind of product does he put out?  Any information you may have would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Blake

Hello Blake

Welcome back to C/L.   Six or seven years ago I was in the same place you are now,  about a 15 year break from it and no decent equipment.   To answer your question,  I know John Ashford very well.  He is a fine gentleman and has done some work for me and has become a friend.   He keeps an advertisement in C/L World magazine and will build you kits,  planes or about whatever you want.  He does first rate work also.

Hey Blake,
Sent you a PM.

I do not like posting peoples info in a thread for a web crawler to pick up.

You will not find a nicer, friendly guy then John. He sometimes gets on these message boards. You can PM him as well.

John Ashford at Brodaks

And that is one of the Planes John has built.  He built it and finished it for Will Moore up in the Northeast, a really great looking airplane!!!!!!

John's great, but he must be old as dirt.  I can say that since he was an adult when I met him (I was 8).  Since I'm not a kid anymore, that must mean he is REALLLLLLY old!!!!

Sorry John - just couldn't pass that opportunity up.  I tried, but just couldn't.

Blake,

Although I am a real smart aleck and an outrageous flirt with my buddies wives, I'm not very good at tooting my own horn.  From the replies you've received one could gather that I am: 1. A nice guy or 2. a jerk.  Pick your poison.

I can say factually that I have for the past 10 or so years built models for museums, collectors and individuals.  I've not had anyone threaten to beat me up in that time.   :D  If some of the guys I have worked with would get on here and give their opinion of my work it would help answer your questions.

My answers would be: 1. I am a total nut job and exhibit outlandish behavior at every opportunity. 2. Hard headed, stubborn, opinionated and absolutely love Classic Stunt ships.  3. I consider myself one of the best builders of competitive stunt planes in the USA.  (Shy aren't I?)

My phone is: 405-293-9276.  I have an answering machine and am at home or in the shop about 90% of the time.  Don't call me in the next week because this is Bowl time and I am a fanatic as far as Football is concerned.

Later,   John
