Big Chuck"BEN-HIMorHER" Heston's gone but not forgotten

What a gifted human being...gone home.
Years ago...at the wind tunnel "GENTLE BEN"  COSGROVE was a long time fan of not only Charlton Heston but love anything to do with Chariots and old movies and especially with his NRA pilot who equally loved airplanes.

Here is a fuzzy scan of  a detail of Big VP Ben Cosgrove's retirement party picture.
Back to Chuck Heston....he did good didn't he???

Though too fuzzy to read it...the quip on the chariot is one of Ben Cosgroves..and Chuck Heston's favorite expressions...and not a bad thing to detail on a stunt job.

(The last shot shows Clinton...who was supposedly going to do some smooozing to the Pentagon to assure that we would get the latest Airforce contract...that we so coveted and lost due to some strange business dealings gone soaringly sour. (another sad tail-tale!)

Anyhow...long live the memory of our beloved Chuck Heston and the gifts he gave to our world.

Sad to know that Mr. Heston is gone.  He was 84 and lived a good life.  Among his many accomplishments, he served as president of the NRA for a number of years. 

He was a gentleman.

During the  "Clinton Years"  Charleton Heston was my President!

A sad passing and the end of an era.  Mr Heston was much more than just a movie star he was a unique individual and a true gentleman, a real Man!

Hollywood just doesn't have anyone like him or John Wayne anymore.  Most of them seem to be liberal ninnies now!

IMHO, his greatest accomplishment was staying faithfully married to the same wife for 60+ years in that Hollywood environment.    Glen

Ben Cosgrove...truly was one of those folks who just plain loved airplanes and airplane people...especially model airplane people and he visited the wind tunnel on a regular basis. His daughter Barbra happened to a Mgr.  in our organization for a while before being permoted up the corp. ladder.
Ben to many of the "less interested non-dedicated engineering folks" were often under the watchful eyes of Ben, who often took the brunt of rath' if they didn't produce or live up to the expectations in their job assignments. Thus the term "GENTLE BEN" took on a completely different meaning.
 Ben was one of the for-fathers that help bring Boeing into the commerical JET AGE....and even after his retirement, was forever on call back...to help sort out "snags" and unruffle the feathers of some of those long time customers that had either real or percieved issues.
Ben was a gifted "GO BETWEEN" kind of leader who could bring both the company and customers back "working together" again. 
When I did this recognition drawing waaaay back in 93. Ben had a working background of over   over 75 years of airplane experience.

We have lost a bit of the asphalt to the north to construction but there is still areas to fly there. Bring cones or a friend to ward off unsuspecting traffic if you are going to fly there.

In 1997 I organized an SAE Aero weightlifting competition where students design, present, build and fly their designs predicting the maximum load carrying capability all around a K&B 61 engine. The judges I picked for the competition were Ben Cosgrove , Paul Walker, a Wakefield champ, the head of Boeing Propulsion and other notables in the engineering Dept. We had 26 University teams making presentations and flying their designs. Boeing no longer has an R/C field but they have lots of parking lots (Oxbow comes to mind) it would be an interesting challenge to see if you could do something like that with CL.

Hi Don,

Thanks for the information on Mr. Heston.  As someone else has written here, he was a true man, along the lines of John Wayne.  Those two were not great actors.  They were great human beings!  The World is a sadder, weaker, place without them.  They transcended the screen in ways very few others ever have, or ever will.

Thankfully the BMA....enjoyed working with the AMA in those early daze-days....and Ben even had the BMA 1991 book give tribute to modeling and its importance.

Truly...Charlton and Ben were both amazingly gifted and special human beings that made this world a betta place.
