Title: Articles in the April Control Line World
Post by: John Cralley on April 10, 2009, 08:32:02 AM
I posted this in The Brotherhood of the Ring forum but since most of you do not haunt that forum I am posting it here as well. I feel that many of you would enjoy a visit with Dave Shipton who is a local legend concerning control line planes. Local fliers try to fly out at Hobby Hideaway on the second Saturday of the month (weather permitting). You can email me if you want more information and/or if you are interested in joining us for a visit/flight! jccrall@ilstu.edu

PS: Mufflers are optional!!  VD~ I fly electric so I don't care!!  #^ LOL

John

I received my April issue of Control Line World today and was pleased to see Dee Rice's article on page 72!!! Of  special note is Dee's nailing down 1st place with his S1 Ringmaster in both Old Time and Classic stunt!!! Way to go Dee!! Other Brothers were in the money but I don't think they were flying Ringmasters.

Also, On page 94 is an article by Doug Dahlke, Here N' There, featuring Dave Shipton's Hobby Hideaway. I have commented several times on flying out at Hobby Hideaway here in the Brotherhood forum. Dave is a one of a kind (83 years old I believe) modeler and still building planes. He is really happy when he can talk aviation with someone and he is an absolute wealth of information. He does not fly much anymore though we did get him to fly last summer in the "chair"!! The Hideaway is a large barn just stuffed full of models and airplane parts. The photo in the article does not do it justice. I have a photo of Dave in the Hideaway "Loft" which I will attach. If you are ever in Central Illinois Hobby Hideaway and Dave are well worth a visit. Tis a bit difficult to find (ah la Hideaway) and a call to announce your desire to visit is a must.

In case anyone is wondering just where Hobby Hideaway is located, here is a link to a Google Map.

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=1840+BROWNWOOD+ROAD+DELAVAN,+IL+61734&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&split=0&gl=us&ei=DFDjSYyMHuTqnQeJkLykCQ&sa=X&oi=geocode_result&ct=image&resnum=1 (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=1840+BROWNWOOD+ROAD+DELAVAN,+IL+61734&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&split=0&gl=us&ei=DFDjSYyMHuTqnQeJkLykCQ&sa=X&oi=geocode_result&ct=image&resnum=1)

It is just a few miles from Interstate 155 exits 10 or 15 (depending on which way you are headed). It is actually not that far from Chicago, St. Louis and the Quad Cities!! In the summer it is surrounded with corn or soybeans and just south of a new passel of wind electric turbine generators. Those wind farms are springing up all over Central Illinois due to the prevailing winds.
