My oldest nephew gave my son Josh some 550 Army cord and showed him how to make a cord band for his wrist. I thought it would make a good lanyard (wrist thong). It did. They call it 550 cord because it is suppose to hold 550lbs. That is about the weight of some of my planes. HB~>
PS- Josh said he would make them for anyone else until he runs out of 550 cord. I will put a post for him over in the classified section. 5 bucks plus shipping to your door.

550 Cord...Main use??? Parachute shroud lines and risers...strangest use? Shark fishing, Destin East Pass, Fl. ;D

One strand of parachute cord is good enough to make a safety thong. No fancy braiding required, FYI.
I once towed a friend's broken VW Beatle down the freeway at 50mph with 'chute cord. The interesting part was when a Camaro went flying by us at 100+ mph with an Oregon State Patrol car in hot pursuit... %^ True story! y1 Steve

Very True Steve, but should I need it I would want a thicker band on my wrist. Might not feel as bad if it had to be used.
And it looks way cooler.

Definitely cool work right there. I've seen a lotta stuff made from parachute cord, even slept in a parachute folded like a mummybag a few times. ;D

Oh yeah. FT Bragg in the winter. A parachute wrapped around you while waiting for the cattle cars or the deuce and a half because you have been up half the night doing parachute recovery ... what fond memories.
550 cord is good stuff, but I never thought of it for a safety lanyard. I have about a half a roll here that a rigger gave me four years ago. I'm going to have to try this.

Neat idea! I like it all "braided", I think it would be much more comfortable than a single strand. Used to have some around here, need to find it! (Hi Bob, as you know I am only a few minutes from the drop zones ;D)

I know, we used to keep you up at night as we headed into Holland DZ. When I was a Jumpmaster, one of my final ACPs was Southern Pines. It always used to be at 0200 ... :(
Email me your current mailing address, and I will put some 550 cord in an envelope and send it to you. Make sure you use a butane lighter (or match) to seal the ends once done, lest it fray on you. At the same time, have a can full of water ready, because once it starts to burn, it goes fast. Just wait until you see it melt, then douse.
Better that than you try to roust some from a young paratrooper.... HB~>

Yep, house shaking early in the morning! LOL!! I could read the serial number on the exhaust stacks......... ;D Of course, there were tens of thousands of paratroopers at Bragg in the mid-late '60s. Got to know quite a few! And we always did a scavenger hunt at the drop zones after big jumps. Lots of stuff was left behind. Ammo cans, etc,. etc..
