I’m considering selling my Bay Area home and relocating in the Tucson area.
Lord knows I can’t retire here and I have a butt load of equity in my house.
My Son and grand daughters live in Sierra Vista, ninety minutes south of Tucson.
My question is, how many flyers reside in the Tucson area?

Hi Larry,
Difficult to think of anyone we'd rather have move to Tucson than you!

There are about 8 to 10 active fliers here in Tucson.  Used to be more of course but age has taken it's toll.  We typically meet at the field most days as most of us are retired..  One or two people often join us from Phoenix once or twice a month.  Jim Hoffman sometimes a little more often than that now that He's also retired.

I and I'm sure others would be happy to gather info on housing etc.   Might be best to do that over the phone, of course.  I'll send you a PM with my number!

The only reason we are here in Texas and NOT green valley or Tucson or Sierra vista was taxes and cost of living expenses

IN the greater Tucson 75 mile radious are some very nice, upscale, safe, and affordable communities

One caution I would proffer is ....if you desire large acreage--- buy north of I 10....Call Randy he can educate you in this

south of sierra vista, in the Hereford area, I had 25 acres lined up, and ready to offer on until a fellow soldier cautioned me on the constant flow of immigrants in the area...Chatted a bit with the "Every where to be found Boarder patrol guys"...sure enough it is a constant problem that the land owner must allow and endure....

My mom had Bay area house and ultimately could not stand the taxes on the ever increasing property value...she sold a 1930s 1600SqFt home in Oakland foot hills for $460,000 a decade ago and lives off that and SSN in Nevada now

Taking the BIG cash out of a Bay area insanely priced property and living very well in one of several much lower costs states seems like a no brainier to me

In fact the general Tucson area is "teaming" with good folks from CA that have done exactly that. Including a couple of Ex National Champion Stunt fliers!

I'm sure you know them Larry!

Not to worry about Rattle Snakes!  I keep them thinned out!

Vail is a nice area and Jack would be a very nice guy to have for a neighbor.  He's a very fine stunt judge also!

That's sorta my plan, taking the cash from a Seattle area property and buying a big place with a flying field 60 miles away in Olympia.  I'm a little worried, not having sold the old place yet.  It's on the edge of a ravine, and the Big One could get it.

Dave Sabon just called me to tell me about your threat of moving to Tucson. If you move  there you will certainly have to change your life style. Just remember that Bob Whitely lives there and he will know where you live (LOL)

It's worth putting up with Lovable Bob for his trimming ability and experience!  I'm the one that's hard to get along with!

Just ask Eric!  Then there's Lovable Lou, and Super John the builder man, You'd be about the only guy He can't embarrass with a finish job!  And don't forget the great finisher of all time Eddy Capitinelli who doesn't fly much anymore but still builds gorgeous airplanes to embarrass everybody with.  Then there's Bart (the Handle) Klapinski who embarrasses everybody by flying their airplane better than they can!
Then there's Burt the carrier guy who does that just about better than anybody ever has and would win at stunt if he tried!
After all if you had lived with all those guys all these years you'd be hard to get along with too!  Then to top it all off Eric comes her a couple of times a year and really messes with everybody!

I really love it here!!!

I wanted you to know all this so when you come you won't be surprised and you will realize that you will need to append your LIST!  It will only take one Sunday bull session at the field!

Obviously your moving out of state will be a serious disappointment to us “Hurl” fans.
Presumably you will hand over the role of commissioner to Dave or myself now?

I found that driving in Tuscon was or is not worse than any other part of this great country.   Nothing like some t**d swerving across 4 lanes of traffic to get to an exit.   If I would have had my way I would have been in Arizona long ago.  But family riles.

Ha, brain dead drivers?
Try driving the thirty mile stretch of US 101 from South San Jose to Menlo Park every day for twenty years.
Jugheads who don’t know what mirrors or turn signals are for.
And more than half of them have their face in their phones.

Turn signals!!!   In heavy traffic I thought they were meant for the guy in the lane you want to move to speed up so you can't.   The best one is the person who slams on their brakes, starts a turn, puts on turn signal and then drives straight ahead.   But really the ones I hate the most is the tail gaters.  Guess that is why I like my Suburban that sits high with the trailer hitch sticking out so it goes through the grill before they hit my bumper.    VD~

Does this factor in the density altitude?

Standard pressure altitude + reduction in gravity due to being further from the center of the Earth + the acceleration associated with being nearer the equator due to centrifugal force  - gravitational anomaly associated with thinner crust thickness. Derivation in the submittal papers for the proposed Rule 71, as you are already aware.

Hi Larry,
Made the SoCal to Tucson move in ‘15. Sold the Pacific Palisades shack, bought a nice Catalina Foothills place three times the size for a third. Nice addition to the bank. 2 dollar gas, milk isn’t 4 bucks. No freeway, I-10 goes around it. 4 lanes with nice left hand turn lanes that empty with an arrow on every cycle. Pretty place, mountains on all 4 sides.
Uncontrolled fields abound, if you need a hangar their 280/mo at Mariana Regional.
As for models... Really nice field, you know all the players. I’m incredibly lazy so you’ll do well. RC is covered too, about 6 fields. Sports cars, muscle cars events abound. Drag strip, NASCAR little oval, auto cross and kart track.
Artsy as can be, Laura likes the theatre, orchestra, galleries, movie houses.
Pretty good place.
Chris...
