Found it here http://www.pennvalleyhobbycenter.com/rubber/supplies/tissue.htm
Let us know if you ordered here?
-
I have ordered kits from them, both C/L and Free Flight. They have been around a long time and are a reliable vendor. 8)

Thank you sir! I was just asking around this evening trying to locate some. Do you recommend the 00 or SMG?
Thanks,
Jason

Penn Valley was my local hobby shop since I started flying in the 1990's. The Philly Fliers met there every Thursday evening for 20+ years. They closed their doors last year and became on online business. When they closed I was under the impression they were only going to sell items they had stock piled or manufacture in house. Most of their sales are now through eBay.
They had no silkspan in stock for as long as I can remember. I believe Banjock ordered through them once or twice and they said SIG can no longer supply it. I'd be curious how they respond if an order was placed.
It was a real shame to lose an old time hobby shop like theirs.

Thanks guys. I'll give them a call tomorrow and see if they do indeed have stock.

I thought SIG was specified in Roberts original post. They started to carry K&S when SIG was no longer available.

It's always possible that Penn Valley discovered more silkspan somewhere in their storage. If they did, it would be a lucky find. We picked through their shelves thoroughly before they shut their doors. At that time there was no silkspan left. Order it quickly if any is available. John Brodak still advertises silkspan on his website. I believe he has a current source. But I haven't check that out. There were questions about quality sometime back. All I can say is some high point finishes were made using the silkspan John sells.

I've always used Sig medium for all of my silkspan work, for me it's always been of a consistent quality. Since discovering Polyspan roughly ten years ago though I've used it from Tom Morris exclusively for all open bay wing work, but I still use Sig silkspan for finishing compound curve wingtips and covering all other areas of the model. Being nervous about Sig's continued availability I tried Brodak's medium once a few years ago but it sucked and I literally threw away what I had left. The weight of it was more like Sig's lightweight silkspan (toilet paper) and the stuff was ridiculously full of holes. I didn't even like it for use over solid areas. I still have some Sig medium left, but I also have my fingers crossed that I can get more of it.

I ordered 15 sheets and here is the response.
Expect a delay as we are under Blizzard conditions.
Hi, Order/Paypal payment confirmed. Thank You. Bill Shive, Owner, PVHC.
You should receive an Email from Stamps.Com when the item is shipped.

I was going to order some heavy silkspan from them but shipping is $10.00. The price is $2.25 per sheet for the silkspan. I think the shipping is just a tad high.

They do have it and this is the message I got

Whose silkspan is Penn Valley selling? Sig? Brodak? or...?
-
If you click on the link it states "K&S". If it is old stock, that's the good stuff. If it is the more recent offering it is still OK and similar to what Sig was selling until they ran out. 8)

I used silkspan recently for the first time, left over from old 1/2A kits. Not for covering wings, but for the profile fuselage. It cuts down on sanding, but is there any other advantage? I didn't know if it added any significant strength and would like to know if wrapping paper tissue or anything else more readily available had other benefits that would make my builds better in any way.
I put it on with Polycrylic, which I hear is heavy. A buddy who's opinion I respect suggested thinned white glue, and though I've never tried dope, I see my LHS has small bottles of Aerogloss clear #65-4 for about $5 or $6 bucks.
Just curious.

Rusty, over the years many have had compatibility problems using Aerogloss with other dopes...proceed with caution. I would try test pieces with whatever else you intend to use.

George, considering you're not the first person to tell me that, Aerogloss is officially off the list. Thanks,

Wicks aircraft sell Randolph dope this is what I use and I recommend.

Again I posted this on another thread, but last Friday I seen two boxes of 00 silk span at Mike's Hobby Shop in Carrolton Tx. I don't use it so it may still be there.

I like Randolph the best also and have used a lot of Sig but almost no Brodak. Simply because there was no close source for it in anything larger than a 4oz. bottle. From what I understand, Sig and Brodak are made using Randolph components. (could be wrong about Sig, but Brodak is definitely made from Randolph products)
Plus, Randolph is definitely cheaper!
