Your opinion and mine might differ - but if you can't laugh at this, you need therapy …

My "Karen" is in the kitchen. She's been a "crank" (not my first choice of words)  ever since she got home...from CHURCH. Could be that next week her car won't start? I think I'll just loosen the gas cap and take a couple hours to "fix" it.  #^ Steve

Not a Karen, but a "Henny Penny" type.  Many years ago, I was working at an independent shop in Floriscent,(sp) Missouri. A guy brings in his mother in laws Cadillac for service. She had died, left it to her daughter, a 67 year old lady that was a regular customer.  We gave it the full "tune up", oil change, replaced front shocks, etc. Good to go. Low miles, great shape.  Just before closing, he comes picks it up, is happy, drives off into the sunset.
Next morning as I drive up to open the shop, just before 0800, I see her sitting in the same Caddy. "Ever since you worked on my car, it makes a loud banging noise in the rear". Words I have heard all to often.  Well, we did only work in the front end, your husband  picked it up and was happy.  "Well I am not".  Me : "OK, let me test drive it."  I do, I make sudden forward and rear hard braking,  turns etc. Definitely a noise from the rear, so I open the trunk and there is her husbands bowling ball, rolling around. He went straight to his league after leaving the shop. She says not a word, gets in, SLAMS the door shut and lays rubber leaving. I got a hundred more...don't get me started..... LL~ LL~ LL~ LL~

Laughing my butt off!  (Well, I didn't have to deal with her, that's an advantage …).

     Hey Ty;
It's Florissant, MO. That's where I live. There is also a Florissant near where Sean lives now, in Colorado Springs. Do you remember the name of the shop? Just curious. I can't believe we both flew model airplanes, control line and free flight,  and never managed to bump into each other? What years did you live here? I have lived in North county, in Berkeley, MO or Florissant my entire life and might be familiar with the shop you worked at.
Everyone should take a shot at working retail or dealing with the public in some shape or form. I worked part time at Mark Twain Hobby in St. Charles, MO for 35 years or so and had my share of this type. Mostly great customers among the regulars, but some who could be a pain in the butt. This time of year, Christmas shopping brings in all kinds who only are looking for a bargain. I had a REALLY long run of embarrassing Dad's over getting Cox .049's to start. The once who claimed to be engineers or some other kind of superior person were the most fun. Some just still claimed it was defective and still wanted a refund. I brought a few of those home after buying from the shop at wholesale so they didn't have to ship them back. When I g to the DMV to renew a drivers license or my car plates, it is always good entertainment to watch the idiots that ALWAYS come in without everything they need to complete their business, even though it's clearly stated on any state paper work exactly what they will need. And in reality, it's only getting worse out there!
   MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

In my early 20s, I worked part-time in the auto service center of a Montgomery Wards.  It was generally over 30 hours a week, but seemed more like a hobby because I really enjoyed it so much more than my full-time job - especially pumping gas.  What I enjoyed more than anything was interacting with a really diverse group of people.

We closed about a half-hour or more after the retail store, and a fairly regular group of employees stopped for gas as they left for home.  One night I advised one of them the oil in her engine was very low, and continued driving was quite risky.  As much as I tried to persuade her, she insisted she'd drive it home and her husband would take care of it.

When I next saw her again several days later and asked how that worked out, she sheepishly admitted they had spent x hundreds of dollars on a new engine.  This was the early '60s, I'd hate to think what the cost would be now.

It's pretty amazing how far some of us let our cars go.

Ty, you need to write a book!  Seriously, that is one of the funniest stories I've heard.  If you have just two more that funny, I'll pledge right now to buy the first copy!

Hey Ty, my son-in-law ran a repair shop near Electric Boat in Groton, Ct for 30 years. One day  customer was tacking up a "missing cat" poster on a phone pole. Shortly after he drove in and said his car was making a clunking noise and could he fix it?  After the usual "take two aspirins and call me in the morning" speech the man left. My son-in-law called him a bit later and said he found his cat. Somehow the cats tail got tangled in the driveshaft and the cat was spinning around banging into the floor pan. Kinda like a twofer. Fixed the noise and found the cat.
I may be wrong but I doubt it.
I wouldn't take her to a dog fight even if she had a chance to win.

We met Karen’s dad yesterday.  Twice a drone buzzed over the south circle at the Apollo field CL area and crashed. The guy acted like no problem. The drone site is about 150 yards away!

The second time we let him search in the wrong area for about an hour. Finally got tired of seeing him wander around and pointed out where the thing was. There were some urges to just stomp the thing and let him assume it was crash damage.
Think S.M.A.L.L. y'all and, it's all good, CL, FF and RC!

It's just that I've grown very tired of all the non-C/L related stuff that's been eating up the forum. I've been here since the inception of Stunthangar and it seems to me that this issue has gotten a lot worse over the last year or so. Lately it's been a bunch of whining and argument about politics. Whatever else it may be though, if it's not related somehow to our modeling or aviation interests, it just doesn't really need to be here. It's bad enough when a good modeling thread deviates and erodes into something else, but I especially see no reason to start right out with it. I'm really tired of the "turn the channel" sidestep comeback too. How about we all just respect the original idea of Stunthangar and get back and stick to topics related to what we're actually supposed to be here for? That would be any topics related to Control Line modeling and flight. I just think there's gotten to be way too much unrelated stuff and more and more it's really hurting the overall quality of the forum. I'm sure someone here will feel the need to jump on me about my comments but that only reinforces some of the points I'm trying to make, quit barking about everything else and let's talk about our hobby. Anyway, Merry Christmas to everyone, this is just my two-cents on the whole deal.  D>K

Yep and I am in the process of assembling two 35 Magicians.  One from an old kit, one from a "kit" I made by copying a kit.

Sounds great Ty, let's see some stuff on them? And yeah, the auto repair stories were funny.

All I'm trying to say is that it seems like there's gradually gotten to be less and less modeling talk here and more and more unrelated jibber jabber. Especially the political garbage. Not pointing the finger at anyone in particular, and yes (Fred & Dan) I've been guilty of getting sucked into it myself on occasion. I do consciously try to refrain though.
Whatever the case, I miss the earlier days of SH when there were always a lot more threads with new build projects etc. Even Sparky himself doesn't post build threads here anymore, he makes us chase through other avenues for them. I really miss those threads, the type that inspire myself and others to stay interested and active in the hobby.

HI Wayne. Could be many of us have reached saturation point or burn out for the time.  Winter doldrums too...I have. I am forcing myself to build two models I absolutely do not need. I intend to use them as stunt trainers for some club members.    I think part of the problem is that the majority of news stations that are telling lies. (A half truth is a lie) This is getting to many of us. Have to vent some where. Granted this is not the place, but it does say Open Forum..Not just sure what their, the majority news outlets, agenda is, but they best read their history. Stalin killed all of them off once he had the power. Then there were only TWO, Investia and Pravda...both state papers.

Any way, let's all build, repair and get ready for flying season. H^^

You are on to something here.  SH and the hobby itself are my "safe space" where I can get away from the insanity that surrounds us.  Our little group is having the same burn out issues.  It is building season but we are not sharing it like we used to.

I to miss the abundance of build threads.  When I first got my feet back in the pool it was about three years before I actually started flying again.  It was SH and to some extent Stuka's build threads that got the juices flowing again.  At first I thought them a bit egotistical but now I understand their value and follow them all.
We need more.

Thanks, Ty, for expressing the value of an outlet!

Wayne, I consider you to be one of the “good guys” - an excellent builder, a fellow club member and a friend.  So, forgive me - but why are you coming here somewhat like the school bully, telling us what we should and shouldn't post?

Unless I’m reading Sparky’s post wrong - https://stunthanger.com/smf/open-forum/i-have-about-had-it/ - and I think many here are choosing to do so - his frustration is primarily driven by complaints, not the posts.  [“ He's touching-He's looking-He's pushing-He said a bad word.”]

You have now posted FOUR (4) MESSAGES in a Topic you feel shouldn’t be here?

Dan and Ty have learned they could easily have met flying some years ago, many of us had the best laughs in weeks … what is so wrong?

Perhaps the element I find most destructive in life is negativity.  “Life is short, and then we die.”

Please relax and do some more of that great work we all enjoy!
