A NEW CONTEST EVENT.
« on: July 24, 2016, 02:23:24 PM »
I know how some people get all worked up about  "NEW CONTEST EVENTS" but how does this one sound?

Many of us are blessed with owning planes that belonged to people who are no longer with us.
Many were the greatest men to ever hold a handle, but most are just guys who were friends and
flying buddies.

So I thought how best to honor the people we miss, than to dust off that old memento
hanging on the wall and go fly it.  Then think of a few great stories to tell and be thankful for the people
who have come and gone in this great thing we call stunt.

Discuss amongst yourself.

Are we talking about the ACTUAL models (e.g. Prototypes)?

This would be kind of interesting, but it might be hard for some clubs to work into schedules. I'm thinking a one or two day fun fly, on a dedicated day much like VSC,  dedicated to specific designers, and rotating that each year. Such as, Allen Brickhaus one year, then some one else the next, and so on. Or just a Memorial Fun Fly, and bring the described models and the stories behind them, along with any others attendee built models designed by the person in question. I know I would like to see a Brickhaus, Mike Gretz, Bob Palmer Memorial Fun Fly. No competition, just fly patterns with friends and maybe seek trimming help if needed. Maybe a beauty contest or pilots choice among attendants. I think it would be a fitting way to remember those who have passed and keep their memory and designs alive and out for people to see.
    Just my thoughts,

I'm certainly not going to disable any of my (now) 32 flyable models.  Too many for me to actually use up in my remaining time. (And I'm very likely to build some more!)  My estate plan is to donate all remaining.  Problem is: transport.  I wonder how far modelers want to travel to pick up a flyable stunter?  (Eugene, Oregon)
