Post by: James Mills on September 18, 2010, 09:55:53 PM
Can the pitch of APC props be changed like carbon props?

Thanks,

Do they keep their pitch after re-pitching?

YES.......However, ALWAYS check them every week like you do your carbon fiber props.

I have tried that many times but have never been able to have one of the Nylon type props keep the pitch, they always go away from where you set them, plus you can weaken greatly the APC , Cyclon, and other mold injected props. I have seen blades sling off of these types after repitching

I have watched the guys at the NATS with their crock pot of hot water and a pitch gauge.  At the upper levels it is not so noticible of the guys repitching props at the field.  Myself I can't see 30 - 40 dollar props.   I play with the props I have on hand and go from there.  Especially if I find one that works.  It not like the early days when a dozen props of the wood or nylon might have pitch difference between them.  I have checked the APC's and Windsor props  which seem to be the most accurate composite props.  Even todays woods props I can find a couple that don't match stated pitch.  Once I find a prop that works, then I concentrate on the flying and also ignore the engine run as it seems the LA's with mufflers are too quiet.   H^^
