Title: APC 11.5 - 4 Prop on Fox 35?
Post by: Joshua Harel on September 17, 2012, 02:45:47 PM
Hi All
I have completed and been flying a Brodak Smoothie ARF with a Top Flite 10 - 5 prop. It flys very well but feels a little anemic. I installed a APC 11.5 - 4 prop and tested it statically by tuning the engine for full revs while held vertically - it turns 9700 rpm and the thrust is such that the plane wants to accelrate straight up out of my hands. Should this be an adequate prop for my Smoothie?
Thanks for any help and comments offered.
Joshua

Will it be an adequate prop for a Smoothie?,Yes! ;D, but you should fly it first. I predict that flight tests will show that it is too much prop for a Fox 35. I won't mind being proven wrong here though. If you are experimenting with props, try an RSM 10x6. I have found them to work well with Fox 35's and OS S-35s.8)

I second the RSM prop.  Worked well with an Ringmaster/Fox as well as a Vector 40/Magnum 36 combination. APC 10x5 would be a good one to try too.

I would suggest, if your airplane feels a little wimpy, that you will likely be better off with more pitch, not less. I always had the best luck with 10-6s. I bet it will feel even more wimpy with the 11.5-4.
