I believe this picture was taken at one of the National events. Looks like Noblers were in vogue back then.
-
If this photo had been taken in England (which it clearly wasn't - too much sun!) I'd have said the builder was Dave "Tubby" Day,whose website is still viewable somewhere. I saw him fly the shiniest (Monokote) red Nobler I've ever seen - on practice flights, just for fun, he'd do two or three consecutive square eights so incredibly small and tight you could hardly believe what you were seeing. That must have been fifty years ago...

Could that be Jim Silhavy? ???
-
That sure looks like a U-Reely in his hand. Don't think it's Sihavy, but it might have been taken at the Mirror Meet in Brooklyn, NY.
Bob Hunt
Hi Bob, are you sure that's a U-Reely? I thought he was tipping the brown go-go juice bottle into his fuel can when I first saw the pic.
Maybe Dennis can clear that up since he probably cans see better what is going on in his original photo than the one he posted?

Now who would fly a red Nobler anyway. LL~ LL~

Leadout from the wrong wing for it to be Bob "U Reely" Gost.
-
Bob / Eric: It's a can being tipped.
Ken: Mr. Gieseke for one. ;D
I got this picture in the late 60s or early 70s from a friend who was at the Nats. IIRC. it was Chicago. I also have two other pictures from that contest, Vornholt's Carousell and another unknown stunter. I've posted them before.

Wrong shade for Bob. Anyway, Bob had more hair back then.
Witness the fixed leadouts. Bob introduced me to Adjustable.
Ken
I withdraw the wrong shade comment. That very well could be Stearman.

Is there any chance this is Windy with the first Video Nobler?
-
Hi Jim. Nope, this here is the Windy Nobler from 1987 the construction of which was was video taped and made available from Ken Budensiek.
-
I'm guessing it may have belonged to John Brock from the Marrietta Georgia area.
I never met the man because he died shortly before I moved into the area.
He was the Cobb County Sky Rebels main stunt guy and was considered to be the best builder/flier around. I had been told he had attended the Nats, probably about 1967 or 1968.
I remember talking with John Simpson about Mr Brock a few years ago.

Oops, now that I have enlarged the photo (and put on my reading glasses) it is clear that the pilot is "tipping the juice" to get some more power out of what was almost certainly a Fox 35.
Oh, the days when a new crankshaft only cost $3.95.

I think it could be one flyer that comes to mind he flew all red noblers with a fox 35.
his name was Roger Barrett.
-
The dress of the two fliers one can see implies the late 50's or early 60's.
Too bad we can't see the AMA number but Gold on Red doesn't do well on film. Looks like they are on a taxiway of some sort.

The nose of the plane has a cooling vent for the crankcase...I've forgotten who started that...
