Title: Anyone know Eddy Leather?
Post by: Paul Taylor on May 17, 2010, 02:38:44 PM
I have one of his old planes and just wondered if anyone knows Eddy.
It is his own design and seems to fly better then I can fly.

Just wonder if he is still flying.

All I know is Windy had it at one time, and it was passed on and I got it and cleaned it up. I just felt I could start flying it last year without fear. It might be my plane at Brodaks.

How about Eddy Marshall?

Am serious.  He was like thirty when I was learing to drive.  From El Paso, maybe.  Turned into a serious biker in maybe 1976-77?  Was a good guy to know, though it was hard hearing him tell me my mom was a 'babe'.  She was, though.  I have pictures to prove it.

We flew at the airport in Pascagoula Mississippi in maybe 1976 or so?  Had a guy come over from Keesler AFB in Biloxi a few times.  Bob something.  Had a combat plane he called the Aye Soar.  Beasley, maybe?  We also flew a few times on a ball field at Keesler.  Loads of fun.

Eddy was (is?) a good guy.  Another of those that help out the punks.  I broke his Nobler, his Sig Mustang, a Sig Akromaster...  What a great guy.

And then he met me at the river for a little bass fishing with his friend Buzzsaw.  All I could do was hope Buzzsaw was catching enough fish to keep him happy.  Lest he slit my throat, commandeer my 67 Glastron/80 Merc, and abscond with my 72 Dodge Dart.  I was impressed.  And scared witless.

Well Leather might not be his real name. I just posted a picture of this plane when I first got it. I think over on SSW and he did not post, he just sent me an email. Name on the email address was eddyleather@isp.com
I think this plane is 20yrs old.

Paul I have never seen that plane before your picture. The reason I mentioned NY was Dave Merithew from Binghamton NY sold all his CL & FF planes a few years before he died three years ago and he had several of my planes from the 50's-60's. He sold it all at the GSCB swap meet.

Ed,

This plane has an airfoil thinner than a Nobler.  It was originally given to the late Don Dixon by Windy almost ten years ago and we passed this plane to Paul a few years ago.  I flew it a couple of times with the OS40FS that came in it and it did not like it very much.  It needs a light motor and needs to be flown rather fast.  The plane is built very well and appears to still have some life left in it.

Paul,

Isn't there a way to look up the AMA number through AMA?    ???
Or maybe you could just ask AMA to look it up.
Just an idea.
